“Where the hell is my new SSX, EA?” We’ve all been asking this question for years, and it’s very unlikely we’ll get an answer at this point. So you know what that means – someone needs to step up with some kind of spiritual successor in its place. And that’s where Acclaim’s HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate comes in.
Set to release sometime this year (there’s no release date, but it’s coming), this Steam/Steam Deck title looks to be a thrilling spin-off of EA Sports Big’s classic series. Wabisabi Games is handling its development, and thus far it looks like a winner, based on the trailer featured below.
What the Heck Is HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate About?
The team best describes this game as being “inspired by the fast-paced gameplay and stylish excess of classics like SSXand Jet Grind Radio.” In addition, it “delivers a modern take on white knuckle arcade-style snowboarding.”
HYPERyuki features an abundant amount of ramp-laden tracks, as well as a huge cast of colorful characters and death-defying tricks. Oh, and if you want secrets, it’s got tons of those, too.
Breaking Down HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate’s Modes
What all can you do in HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate? We’re so glad you asked. Here’s a rundown of the modes featured within the game!
- Challenge – Think you have what it takes to impress? In Challenge mode you’ll have to complete objectives to hit the highest score possible. Ride rails, collect trinkets, and hit impressive tricks to hit the top rank on the leaderboard.
- Race – Speed down the slopes against NPCs or other players in this fast-paced game mode. Tricks will increase your boost meter, making style and speed an important balance.
- Chill – Enjoy a calm experience, hang around the tracks, and enjoy the view in this endless mode. Who knows? Maybe you’ll even find some secrets along the way!
- Multiplayer – Compete against friends both online and in person! Play online with up to seven of your friends or play local multiplayer through split screen.
- Shred – Bomb the slopes as a sentient snowboarding taco!
Yes, you read that correctly. A damn taco! Now we’re hungry.
It’s All Downhill From Here
The only downside to HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate at this point is that it’s only coming out for PC/Steam/Steam Deck. Really? Something like this would feel right at home on the Nintendo Switch 2, as well as PlayStation and Xbox. Hopefully Acclaim will give it a chance to shine on other platforms down the road.
But for the moment, Wabisabi Games is packing this one with all sorts of fun arcade frills, and hopefully it’ll have some multiplayer down the road. HYPERyuki looks to be just the speed that SSX fans are looking for, and hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to get it. BANZAI!
