Every week, we see indie devs try their hand at something they were inspired by in the past. Whether it’s the high-flying fun of FZ: Formation Z, or the beat-em-up antics of Underling Uprising, there’s something for everyone. And don’t even get us started on the wonder of Mina the Hollower, we’ll be here all day! (And for that matter, Junkster, which is out today!)
But that’s not all. “Alongside these exciting reveals, we aim to spotlight games preservation and deliver expert insights, all curated to highlight the community and innovation happening right now in the retro scene,” Pixel Helix notes.
That’s important. Especially right now, as games are losing their servers and practically saying bye-bye to ever existing in the first place (save for past playthrough videos and memories from many gamers). It’s vital that we save these game experiences while we can.

What’s the Thinking Behind Pixel Arcadia?
As for the logic behind what’s happening with this showcase, Al Hibberd, CEO of Pixel Helix, couldn’t make the point any clearer.
“Pixel Arcadia is a dedicated space for retro games fans, one that celebrates the important part of the industry by honoring the trailblazers of gaming past and looking ahead to evolutions of iconic franchises,” Hibberd notes.
That’s also important. At a time when developers are pouring millions of dollars and man-hours into the development of something super spruced-up, we’re forgetting some of the core components that make a game tick in the first place.
“By partnering with incredible sponsors who share our vision, we are able to support the retro space with true editorial value.” (Hey, that sounds like us!)
What’s more, it’s “allowing developers to keep their resources for making incredible games and connecting them directly with their core audience.” And considering the news that Microsoft is looking to close some of their most cherished studios to save bucks, this seems more important than ever before.
