We expected the Xbox Showcase to deliver yesterday and, boy, did it. We got announcement after announcement and most of them blew us away. But we also got assurance that Asha Sharma definitely knows what she’s doing with her takeover of the Xbox brand.
With that, let’s take a look at the five (well, seven) most groundbreaking reveals that took place during the showcase!
What’s Old Is New Again With Xbox
Even though we have yet to hear anything about the revival of the backward compatibility program, Microsoft did have some old-school goodness for us. The company revealed a stunning 25th anniversary edition of the Xbox Series X, looking just like the original green Xbox console. It’s fully see-through and comes with a matching controller. And, yes, the controller will be available separately.
The system’s price hasn’t been revealed just yet, but it’s arriving later this year. And those that attended yesterday’s event in person will get one for free. LUCKYYYYYYYY.
Gears of War: E-Day Will Tear It Up Exclusively On Xbox
Some new footage of the awesome Gears of War: E-Day became available. And it looks great, telling a prequel-ish sort of tale of the rise of the Gears. There was lots to take in here, but the big thing is that it will be Xbox exclusive – at least, for now – when it arrives on October 6. And, yes, multiplayer will absolutely cook.
What’s more, anyone who pre-orders can take part in an open beta that’s set to kick off on August 6th. As expected, we will see you there.
Hey, Spyro’s Back On Xbox and More!
We were wondering what Toys For Bob was up to since it broke away from Activision to become a self-funded studio. Well, now we know. It’s teamed up with Xbox to bring an extraordinary new chapter of Spyro the Dragon to life! Spyro: A Realm Beyond will arrive in 2027, and will come to consoles and PC alike, so everyone can take flight!
More gameplay would’ve been ideal, but, hey, we’ll take what we can get. Our hero is back and breathing more fire than ever.
Crazy Taxi Is Ready To Make Cuh-Razy Money In 2027
There’s argument about the usage of some AI here and there, but can we just talk about the fact that Crazy Taxi will finally return? World Tour promises to bring all the high-flying fun of the arcade original back, along with some other cool stuff that will keep us on the edge of our seat. Plus the original game producer is back, and, wait, so is Offspring? Now let’s throw some Bad Religion in there.
And it will be on multiple platforms, so, yeah, let’s hit the road!
Halo: Campaign Evolved Looks Excellent – And Is Coming To More Than Xbox
Master Chief needs a weapon. Halo: Campaign Evolved is nearing its run to the finish line. And based on the new gameplay revealed, it looks absolutely remarkable. The game looks to move at a nice clip, with more action than ever before. Also, that Collector’s Edition is real nice. No wonder it sold out so quickly.
The game arrives on July 28, and will debut on Xbox, PC and, yep, PlayStation 5. We’ll have to get our copy pre-ordered.
Who Said More Doom?!
Last year’s Doom: The Dark Ages absolutely cooked on Xbox and PlayStation, bringing a new era of hellish violence from the team at id Software. But they aren’t done yet, as a new expansion – Revelations – arrives on July 7th. In it, you guide the Doom Slayer through another path of destruction and chaos, just the way we like it.
Those that bought the Premium Edition will get it for free. Otherwise, you’re paying $20, but that’s more than reasonable for the violence you’re getting here.
Head Back To the (Minecraft) Dungeons
The original Minecraft Dungeons ended up being a big hit for Mojang Studios and its partners. So of course, there’s more where that came from, with a new chapter focusing on additional warriors, more goodies and all the multiplayer mayhem you can muster. And yes, it’s coming to more than just Xbox, with releases on other consoles planned as well.
Fans can dive in starting September 29th, and can pre-order the game now. Will you get yours?
