DESCRIPTION

The second instalment in a trilogy retelling the events of FF7 Rebirth follows Cloud Strife and his allies after their escape from Midgar. The team decides to follow a group of mysterious, zombie-like men in black robes that are tied to franchise antagonist Sephiroth, a legendary figure looking to destroy the world. This leads them across their world and into several major fights for the future of the planet.

GAMEPLAY

It comes to no surprise that Rebirths gameplay mirrors that of Remake which is a good thing with a larger world than it’s first outing. I’ve seen and heard people say that you don’t need to play FF 7 Remake to understand Rebirth but I disagree due to the fact it’s a follow on from its predecessor and as a lot of elements from the original series from the PS1. The games far bigger than remake with 14 chapters, less than Remake but far more exploring to do as a lot of the game is open world. This time you can use Chocobos and vehicles to explore. With the usual side missions but better side missions than Remake, bonus games and more. Introducing Chocobo racing is a welcome addition which is a lot of fun, mini card games can get tedious but are optional for the most part. Side missions are also back as expected to extend your experience but the main focus is on the story. If you go through the game doing every quest/side mission it will take well over 100-150 hours to fully explore.

Later on in the game I’m not saying we’re due to spoilers there’s a segment for each character that follows there past but is it real ? Something you will have to find out yourself. I found it to be a real cool touch to the story.

I’ve completed a full playthrough before writing this review and was based more on the story than side missions etc. I will be going back replaying levels which you unlock by finishing all 14 chapter and also have the option to replay on hard while keeping all your stats etc.

GRAPHICS & AUDIO

There are two modes for graphics… GRAPHICS & PERFORMANCE This review is based on Graphics.

If you thought Remake looked good you will be stunned at Rebirth with exceptional landscapes to explore. Even the character details have changed slightly in facial details from Remake. Great detail to towns that are visited are some of the best I’ve seen in any game. Players can now also strengthen there party through a skill tree, Similar to the one in FF16.

Game audio is what you would expect from any Final Fantasy experience. Magical, Crisp with new elements in certain areas experimenting with rock and classical soundtracks and more. Character dialogue is on point with some great voice acting and with original music from the series it takes you straight back to the classic PS1 FFVII

ACCESSIBILITY

Accessibility is present in options on how you play with numerous settings to change.

Game is turn based and many options for battle but accessibility as such. No colour or audio options.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Everything in Final Fantasy Rebirth comes together into its own. It’s desire to be faithful in the ways that matter to the original and in being its own thing. I can’t help but love it. Rebirth manages to modernize the way Final Fantasy 7 felt all those years ago. A must buy for any Final Fantasy fan, would also suggest playing Remake first & with future content updates planned there’s plenty to go at.

I personally can’t wait for the third instalment and can’t come quick enough.
