Good evening ladies, gentlemen and those of a non-binary nature, my name is Daibhi and this is the Gamerhub community. Since we’ve opened our inbox, we’ve been inundated with questions about the splinter cell remake and the details of it, so without further ado, I’m going to cover this like radroaches cover Vault-Tec vaults that haven’t been left sealed.

Firstly, yes, a Splinter Cell game is coming soon. In 2021, a video released by Ubisoft announced that a new Splinter Cell game is going to be with us soon, but we never got a date as to when. Not only is the game going to be released on all major consoles, it’s going to be a remake of the original game which was released in 2002. The video also talks about how Splinter Cell as a franchise changed Ubisoft from the Canadian brand that made Rayman games into what they are today.

Obviously, news of a remake of the original game got massive attention at the time, and since then, gamers and streamers on both Twitch and YouTube have been doing deep dives into the lore and gameplay of the franchise, but the news has kinda dried up since that point. It is worth pointing out that the Assassins Creed Franchise has probably taken priority since then, and my review of Assassins Creed Mirage is going to be released on here tomorrow, but still, we’ve heard less from Ubisoft about Splinter Cell than Kirk Langstrom did from the world before he turned himself into a giant bat in Batman Arkham Knight.

What we do know is that the original story is getting updated for modern audiences, as Ubisoft themselves had a job listing in 2022, for “rewriting and updating the story for a modern-day audience”. Does that mean Sweet Baby Inc are involved? Fear not gamers, I doubt that the remake is going to make Sam a blue-haired non-binary person with one leg and mental health issues. The listing states that they “Want to keep the spirit and the themes of the original game while exploring our characters and world to make them more authentic and believable”. In other words, Sam is more likely to resemble Jack Reacher in this game than Solid Snake.

They also released a blog post, in which the producer (Matt West) revealed to us all that the remake is being built from the ground up, so we can all expect visual and design updates (and hopefully no blocky textures). Also, we know that this game will be linear and thus no open worlds. I have to admit personally gamers, that I’m about as pleased with that as Andrew Ryan is about his son becoming his murderer.

If this game is going to be everything promised, then expect a moody, stealth-oriented game where getting around involves using the lighting (or lack thereof) and having multiple routes through. Going Juggernaut and brute forcing your way through will be pretty much impossible. We also know which game engine we’re getting this on: Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine. This has been used for the visually underrated Avatar: Flowers Of Pandora game.

The last thing we heard about it is that in November of 2023, Ubisoft said that the game had passed “an important milestone internally and development is still progressing”.

I guess we’ll just have to wait until then, gamers, but I shall keep you informed every step of the way.

In the hope that the remake is better than Breakpoint was, and for the Gamerhub community, I have been Daibhi and you are all legends.
