In a recent post on Halo Waypoint, the official Halo site, an announcement was made regarding the Halo TV series. In this post it was revealed that SHOWTIME and Amblin Television will be working together, along with the legendary storyteller Steven Spielberg. Director Rupert Wyatt known for Rise of the Planet of the Apes is also on board, along with Kyle Killen who will be executive producer and writer. Pre-production is currently taking place with full production to get started in 2019.
SHOWTIME CEO David Nevins confirmed that the series will be a 10 episode season based on Halo. This season will take place during the events of Halo Combat Evolved, in the Human Covenant war. While announcing these details Nevins said the following:
“Halo is our most ambitious series ever, and we expect audiences who have been anticipating it for years to be thoroughly rewarded. In the history of television, there simply has never been enough great science fiction. Kyle Killen’s scripts are thrilling, expansive and provocative, Rupert Wyatt is a wonderful, world-building director, and their vision of Halo will enthral fans of the game while also drawing the uninitiated into a world of complex characters that populate this unique universe.”
Kiki Wolfkill, head of Halo Transmedia at 343 Industries, also expressed her excitement for the project stating “This is a truly exciting moment for the Halo franchise.” The Halo TV Series was announced at E3 2013 and ever since, fans have been waiting for news to be revealed with little being given. This announcement will surly kick life back into the excitement for this project as Halo fans across the world wait eagerly for it’s release in what is expected to be a few years time. The TV series will be distributed globally by CBS Studios International.
