So, that happened. Sony once again hit us with a surprise State of Play broadcast with over 60 minutes of reveals. And what reveals they were. We’ve gotten the return of several key franchises, as well as a couple of shadow drops to keep us busy over the next few days. But, to be honest, what are the biggest takeaways from this recent broadcast?

Well, I’ve taken it upon myself to break it down, because, well, I’m nice. And also completely going bonkers over what’s on the plate for this year. So let’s get started!

God of War Is Back, and How, Baby!

Kratos is making 2026 his bitch, and it shows with not one but two big announcements.

The first is God of War: Sons of Sparta, a new side-scrolling action game from the insane squad at Mega Cat Studios. This one looks like a real winner, and will no doubt keep gamers happy. Especially with the return of T.C. Carson as Kratos. What’s more, it’s available right now for PS5, going for $30.

As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also the official confirmation of a God of War remastered trilogy! T.C. was back for this as well, and hinted that it’s in the works. No release date, but the return of old-school Kratos is imminent. Hopefully they leave the sex scenes alone, because those are wild. (Even if they didn’t show them on State of Play, for obvious reasons.)

Hang On, Konami’s Back?!

Konami has confirmed that, just in time for its 40th anniversary, Castlevania is getting a huge push. That means several new projects in the works. And the first one, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, looks like a winner. Due this year for consoles and PC, the game comes to us from Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the creators of Dead Cells. Considering the magic they conjured with the Castlevania-themed DLC for that game, it’s no wonder they’re put in charge here. Can’t wait!

Then there’s another collection featuring Metal Gear Solid, and this one’s a doozy. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection 2finally gives Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots a multiplatform release. Not only that, but we get the definitive edition of Peace Walker as well. This one drops on August 27th!

Oh, yeah, another Silent Hill as well! Get ready for Townfall to bring the spooky when it arrives this year for consoles and PC.

Last but not least, Konami’s hard at work on a new JRPG, Rev Noir. And it’s looking really good.

Rayman: 30th Anniversary Is Out TODAY!

There may be a lot of negative talk about Ubisoft right now, but their hearts are in the right place when it comes to their limbless hero, Rayman. His original adventure is getting a hearty re-release on consoles and PC today, with the 30thAnniversary Edition. Produced by the folks at Digital Eclipse, it includes five versions of the game, along with a prototype, behind-the-scenes goodies and so much more. A must for any fan of the series.

When the Space Marine Team Meets John Wick

Saber Interactive simply can’t rest these days. They’re working on everything from Turok to Toxic Commando, and yet the team saved some room for a new AAA John Wick game featuring the involvement of series director Chad Stahelski, as well as the character model for Keanu Reeves. Whoa. It’s likely to drop soon, but we’ll have more details soon.

Now This Is Star Wars: Galactic Racing

Okay, we said six but it’s really seven! Here’s one more goodie from the State of Play broadcast – a first look at Star Wars: Galactic Racing gameplay! It looks razor sharp, with a fast frame rate and exquisite track design, Plus that character selection…is that who I think it is?! Fuse Games is doing bang-up work on this, and we’ll see how it fares when it drops later this year. There’s also a campaign mode! Poo-doo!
