Microsoft has confirmed that the smartglass integrated Challenge Editor for Ryse: Son of Rome will no longer be getting a release. This editor would have allowed players to create objectives and maps for co-operative mode, which could then in turn be uploaded. The game was missing this feature at launch, promised to be delivered at a later date, but a Microsoft Spokesperson has come out and said that it has now been entirely scrapped. Quote follows:
“After careful consideration, we have decided to cease development on Ryse: Son of Rome’s challenge editor and focus on improving and expanding fans’ experience with the game through both free content updates and purchased add-on packs. We look forward to sharing more details soon.”
There has been some rumours that that editor was scrapped due to a low review score for Ryse. There will be some good news however, as the new DLC will still come out, including a new co-operative survival mode, new maps and a free skin for Season Pass owners. It is unfortunate that something that sounds unique and interesting like this will get scrapped, but it’s clear that if people are not enjoying or buying the game, spending more time on development might not be the best idea.
