As everyone knows, Gunnar Optiks is the go-to company for gaming glasses goodness. Wow, say that five times fast. We covered their immensely popular Cyberpunk 2077 Dex glasses beforehand, and use them regularly with our feverish gaming sessions. But now we find ourselves in another realm with the quirky Alienware-branded Bermuda Triangle specs. And while they may look a little odd and somewhat flimsy, they’ll be right at home with anyone that wants to look cool and, well, see cool things.
Unlike other Gunnar types (and with similarities to Hex), the Bermuda glasses utilize a singular front piece. It’s all interconnected with a nice amber (for the review – you can get clear too) shade, with two liquid teal colored handles attached (and a little alien branding). They’re surprisingly comfortable, and the one-piece design actually makes it simpler to keep an eye on your game. No frame getting in the way.
On top of that, the glasses, like all Gunnar models, block out the dangerous UV and blue light that can do damage to your eyes over time. The fact it’s all connected means you continuously get to see your picture as well. We tested it during our most hardcore of sessions and came away impressed. Plus they’re comfortable, with the nose piece in particular not snubbing your nose too hard.
For $90, gaming glasses cost can be a bit hard to swallow. But with a puffy case and cleaning cloth included, you get tremendous value with the Bermuda Triangle glasses. They’re definitely worth the cash.
Gunnar Optiks’ Alienware Bermuda Triangle Glasses Bring the Science (Fiction)
Upon first look at these glasses, you might think, “Say, these may be a tad too futuristic.” But that’s the idea. Gunnar went out of their way with Cyberpunk 2077’s Hex glasses beforehand, to capture that “awesome” look that several gamers are looking for. The Bermuda Triangle glasses easily fit into this category.
The glasses feature a singular lens build, one that covers both eyes and the bridge in-between, with a nose piece for them to sit comfortably on. This assures that you always keep a good eye on your gaming picture, without any frames to get in the way.
The build itself may look a bit slim, but it’s relatively solid, without wearing too much on your face for smudging. Sadly, this customary build isn’t available for prescription, but considering the framing here, it’d probably be impossible to synthesize anyway. Oh, well.
The frames come in either amber or clear. For the review mode, we got amber, and the color fits perfectly with other Gunnar offerings. You can still see your picture fairly clearly (depending on your eye type), and the harmful UV and blue light effects are kept at bay, down 35 percent. Plus the liquid teal side pieces look very cool, with a little alien imprint on them. Yep, they’re Alienware branded.
The glasses are comfortable over time, and though they may resemble something a little too futuristic, they’re perfect for gamers that want to stand out. Plus they come with an awesome cleaning cloth and an interesting “puffy case,” which lets you carry them around with ease.
We were quite impressed with the Gunnar Bermuda Triangle glasses, and intend to use them often in our future gaming sessions. After all, we got a lot to play this year.
How Do the Gunnar Optiks Alienware Bermuda Glasses Hold Up During Gameplay?
Next, let’s talk about performance.
We tested out the Alienware glasses with several gaming sessions. The first stop, obviously, was F-Zero GX for Nintendo Gamecube. We’re happy to report that playing a futuristic game with futuristic glasses was a spot-on experience. Didn’t miss a beat with the speed or colors.
We also went contemporary and gave the glasses a go with Forza Horizon 6, and the glasses made us feel even more of a slight Japanese groove as we cruised down the city streets. Didn’t let up in the least.
Finally, yes, a fighting game, and what else but Street Fighter 6? We had to look cool while kicking Bison’s butt and taking names, and the glasses delivered.
So, yeah, whatever you’re in the mood to play, these Alienware bad boys will be your speed.
Should You Get the Gunnar Optiks Alienware Bermuda Triangle Glasses?
We know that gaming glasses aren’t cheap these days – especially good ones that will last over time, and won’t fall apart over, say, a game of Halo: Combat Evolved. But Gunnar Optiks won us over again with the Alienware Bermuda Triangle specs. They’re built solid and deliver great performance, and also don’t wear on our faces over time. Plus that puffy case is cool, and easy to fit into storage.
