Although Microsoft made an executive decision to stop bundling the peripheral with new consoles, it seems that the Kinect is far from dead, at least amongst Xbox One owners who still have the device tethered to their console. A recent study by Microsoft”s marketing team has revealed that a ‘vast majority’ of Xbox One owners still use their Kinect. More specifically, they use it for its biometric sign-in and user interface capabilities rather than with games. So despite the backlash Kinect has received over the years, it still appears to be alive and well in most living rooms.
It’s also pertinent to note that voice integration on Xbox One is not going anywhere. In fact it’s only getting better. The New Xbox Experience dashboard that is set to be rolled out sometime next month features Cortana integration and promises to be quicker, smarter and more responsive than the current set-up. So maybe now is the time to take your Kinect out of retirement or purchase an Xbox One that comes bundled with it.
