When it occurs to me that none of the big games are released in the summer it makes question why this happens? Every year we have a dry spell where we have to wrack our brains to find new and interesting topics to keep site viewers interested. Though if there is no news then there is not a great deal to write about.
We did have a massive game released just after E3 and that was Batman: Arkham Knight and the game was met with the success and reception that was to be expected (though maybe not on PC unfortunately). Usually every year though we do have a low point where we have to make do with the games we already have or possibly just take a break from gaming for a few weeks. It is not the end of the world when we switch off the console and do other things, though usually we like the escapism that comes with loading up our virtual self and heading out on some grand and epic adventure.
This year though we see the Xbox Ultimate Game Sale in which games such as Far Cry 4 have been slashed down to £22 and that is a bargain for a game that only came out at the tail end of last year. What I am trying to say is that that games companies know there is a summer low, but why do none of the big companies (or little) take a risk and launch a game right now when there is nothing else to compete with? This could be the opportunity for a small company to dominate the market and have the most talked about game of the summer.
Is summer the best time for us to look back at our back catalogues and see what our next big grand adventure is, or is it a time to raid the bargain bins for the games we missed? Xbox One will be a great platform to try out old favourites and new adventures alike with Backwards Compatibility coming to the consoles features this winter (Americans call it Holiday, but I like to just think December time).
