With Thief released in America, I thought it might be a good opportunity to see what response the game has received from those who were able to review the games early. I’ll just summarise these reviews rather than giving an in-depth synopsis. So, without further ado, let’s start with IGN:

IGN

Overall the score that was given by IGN was an OK 6.8. The reason for this is that there may be some strong stealth mechanics going for it, but getting away unseen with a big haul can be at times an enormous challenge.

The characters lack any interest, Garrett isn’t as sure-footed as a Master Thief ought to be and the city is hub is quite annoying to navigate. The story itself is weak; so ignoring it completely and cherry-picking the best side missions are the best way to approach the game.

Polygon

Overall the score that was given by Polygon was an OK 6. There are elements of a better game in THIEF. Garrett’s adventure was more enjoyable when it was about stealing, when it was about structure, creatively sneaking away and accumulating and spending loot. There wasn’t enough breaking and entering as was anticipated from the game. Often, it felt as though you were a mouse in a narrow hallway filled with cats.

Metacritic, gave the PC version of the game a 69/100.

These three reviews had a mixture of Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions of the game, THIEF; and all of them provided a similar score. On average the score Thief received a mediocre 6.7 out of 10. Surprisingly, none of the reviews were based on the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions of the game.
