Over at Bonus Round Michael Pachter (Industry Analyst) is under the belief that come 2015 Microsoft will be selling the XboxOne (X1) without a Kinect if you want to buy it that bit cheaper. Below I’ve briefly gone through the interview and picked out some important points.
During the interview linked above numerous pieces of flesh were torn from the X1 sales in the U.S. with the figures being less than half than that of the PS4, though slight praise was placed upon the Titanfall package being offered in the U.K. though the bites where still taken out of the U.S.
Returning back to Titanfall they highlighted this as a positive for Microsoft saying this will be the push in sales for the X1 needs, with talk on the increase in new consoles being shifted but due to the 360 version following a couple of weeks later this has slowed the urgency for a number of people to move up to the next-gen console as quick. Questions where raised as well why PS4 can’t push original exclusive content as well as Microsoft can, which is a very valid point; The Last of Us and Second Son by inFamous are fantastic games but the World is frothing for Titanfall, even PS4 owners are disappointed they’re not getting it (Titanfall).
Sights where turned to how Microsoft will start to increase sales for the X1 and the big thing is the removing of Kinect as the main flag bearer Don (Mattrick) has gone and they really have no need to push this unwanted, poorly invested in piece of technology; instead Microsoft can market the Kinect as a piece of kit that people can buy if they wish to be a self-publishing, Twitch user. By 2015 Michael Pachter expects the Kinect to be unbundled and the hard drive to be taken down to 500gb with a big price reduction to increase the markets sales; which personally I’d tap into.
