Just when we all thought that the X1 was getting better, it seems to have some surprises in store. Yes, the developer of Sniper Elite 3, Rebellion, has shed light on why developers may have greater difficulty achieving 1080p in Xbox One titles compared to its PS4 counterpart.

It has been said by Jean-Baptiste Bolcato, Sniper Elite 3’s senior producer, that the problem lays within the Xbox One’s eSRAM.  He told GamingBolt that:

“It was clearly a bit more complicated to extract the maximum power from the Xbox One when you’re trying to achieve 1080p. I think eSRAM is easy to use. The only problem is…. Part of the problem is that it’s just a little bit too small to output 1080p within that size.”

He continued to say that not everything can be done with a little buffer of super-fast RAM. What this means is that in order to get it to work, it has to be done in chunks or using tricks.

It has been said that the Xbox One is a bit more like a multimedia machine so it is that little bit more complex. Compared to the PS4, which is designed as a games machine, the Xbox One simply limits what can and can’t be done by developers.

Bolcato continued to say that:

“It seems like everything has reversed. It doesn’t mean that it’s far less powerful – it’s just a pain in the ass to start with. We are on fine ground now but the first few months were hell”

However, there is some good news on the horizon for the avid Xbox fans. Microsoft seem to be aware of the issue and will be releasing a new SDK that’s much faster and will allow for games to run at 1080p more comfortably on the Xbox One.
