For those who didn’t read my previous article, detailing some of the System Updates that were coming to Xbox One in the next few months, well the first one is available sometime today.
I say ‘sometime’, because not even Microsoft knows when exactly it will be going live. The update will add new features to the console, including a battery indicator for your Xbox One controller; more voice controls, improved data management and a slightly modified dashboard (mainly to incorporate the battery indicator at the bottom right of the image below).
Once the engineers at Microsoft are finished with the update and tweaking all that is to be included, it will then be made available on a worldwide scale. This is somewhat time consuming and so it might not be until later this week when it is available in the UK.
In a tweet from Major Nelson he states that:
“System Update will ship this week, but not today. The team is working on finalizing. More details when I get them.”
When the update eventually goes live, your console will prompt you to download it. Yes, this is not an automatic update that will happen when you switch on your X1, you have to manually install it because it is not yet equipped to start these major updates to its system in the background. Ironically, this update will introduce this function to the console which will be a very useful feature for those who can’t stop gaming.
The second update to the system will come on March 4 to facilitate the launch of Titanfall in the UK on March 14, but also to improve the multi-player and party chat systems.
