Microsoft confirmed earlier today that the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility tech will fully support DLC for Xbox 360 games as well.

As with the full game titles, the DLC just needs to simply be given the thumbs up by the publishers.

The confirmation of this was given earlier this morning by Xbox Support who posted the following reply on Twitter:

Microsoft executive Kudo Tsunoda had also previously confirmed in an interview with Eurogamer that all cloud saves and achievements will also carry over.

On top of that, the king of Xbox, Phil Spencer, confirmed that Xbox 360 multiplayer will also work, providing the publisher has kept the servers open.

As we all know by now, the backwards compatibility tech works by emulating a virtual Xbox 360 environment. Gamers will be allowed to download the digital titles that they already own, whilst physical copies will need to be installed when the disk is inserted.

At full launch there will be more than 100 games available, with more to be added every week. The service is currently available to preview program members, with a library of 21 titles available.

The feature is scheduled to launch this autumn, and at present there is no DLC available, but the programme is only a week old. I think it is safe to say that when the programme is ready for a full launch there will be plenty of DLC available, as I can’t imagine Microsoft allowing flagship titles such as Gears of War 3 to launch with no DLC.
