When Ubisoft released Watch Dogs back in May of 2014 the game was met with mixed reviews, the original E3 presentation had promised a lot more than the game ever delivered. This left a sour taste in a lot of peoples mouths, the company promised something that looked amazing and they fell into what I like to call “The Molyneux trap”.
The Molyneux trap is simply when a game becomes the biggest victim of its own hype that the game can never possibly live up to the expectations that have been built up around the hype.
The hype for Watch Dogs 2 has been a case of overcautious and avoidance, I have not wanted to get invested into the trailers or presentations simple for one reason; I do not want to be let down again. Though with the latest release of the “Welcome to San Francisco” trailer I may have fallen into this dangerous trap.
The trailer shows a PlayStation branding as the game will be released on PS4 first, this will be a 30 timed exclusive before releasing on Xbox One and PC.
The trailer provides a more lively and vibrant setting for the sequel, where the only thing more bland than the setting of the original Watch Dogs was the games protagonist. I am hoping this game delivers a much more satisfying experience, as people are shelling for a game that is looking to build on the faults of the predecessor.
Watch Dogs 2 will be released on PS4 November 15th and 30 days later on Xbox One and PC.
