It’s here! Halloween is finally upon us. Now, you could go out trick or treating, or even TP’ing someone’s house (like, hey, Gavin’s flat!). Or you could be like us and play some really great games this Halloween.
What kind of games, you ask? We’ve got five suggestions that will definitely put you in a spooky mood. Dig in!
Dead Space Remake
Released last year, EA’s remake of the legendary Dead Space is nothing short of spectacular. All of its atmospheric horror is perfectly intact. And, yes, there are truly horrible ways to die. Like having your head ripped off and your body taken over by a necromorph. Or maybe torn to pieces in an air shaft because you didn’t check the fans. Whatever. This game comes jam-packed with bloody goodness and you shouldn’t miss it.
RetroRealms Arcade
We just reviewed this the other day. But in case you missed the news, RetroRealms is a hit. It features two awesome titles based on classic horror franchises. Halloween has you ripping through fools with Michael Myers. Then there’s Ash using his chainsaw for the greater good in Ash vs. Evil Dead. Loaded with unlockables and bonus videos, both games have something great to offer. And they’re as bloody as you’d expect. Now that’s groovy.
Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered
We’ll review this one very soon. But it’s great to have this one back, if only because it’s an unheralded classic from Suda 51. In it, you’re using all sorts of funky weapons to push back against demons. It’s got an eclectic style that works incredibly well, and it’s fun to play. Not to mention those remastered visuals are “hella” cool, if we dare use the word “hella.” And why wouldn’t we? Shadows of the Damned is prime material for rediscovery. Don’t miss it.
Clock Tower Remake
We’ll get to this one as well – man, our plate is full at the moment. But the original Clock Tower never got a chance to shine in other markets like it did in Japan. Fortunately, it has the chance now, with WayForward delivering a masterful remake. It plays wonderfully and comes packed with tension, thanks to ol’ Scissorman. The story really engulfs you as well – maybe to the point of your demise. Just walk carefully and remember – patience is key!
Castlevania Dominus Collection
Last but certainly not least, what is Halloween without Castlevania? While there are many great games out there, Castlevania Dominus Collection takes the bloody cake. As we mentioned in our review, it features three superb Nintendo DS titles. And it presents them in a way that is both ingenious and loads of fun. Not to mention the team at M2 did justice to the cruddy Castlevania game Haunted Castle. It’s not only fun, but it’s amazing. Don’t you dare miss this total package.
