Ready for a shooting challenge? Because, boy, is Truxton Extreme bringing it. After the release of a PC demo a few months ago, Clear River Games has announced that the long-awaited “shmup” revision will arrive on consoles this July. Set to debut on PlayStation 5, PC/Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox, the game will offer a welcome return to Toaplan’s series.

For the first time in 38 years, you’ll be able to venture through these deadly skies again, with original Truxton creator Masahiro Yuge on board for development.

Game Modes

Here’s a rundown of what players can expect!

  • Story – Combining action and comics, Story Mode takes players through the main game of Truxton Extreme to unlock episodes, read comics and clear shmup stages.
  • Arcade – In true arcade style Arcade Mode is pure unrelenting action in which players clear all stages in sequence.
  • Heart Starter – A more forgiving mode, Heart Starter is recommended for beginners to get used to the game. Players will recover from enemy hits in a few seconds and won’t lose lives, even if they make mistakes.
  • Team – Take on the Geranium invasion together! Team Mode allows two-player co-op, sharing their bombs, their lives and their scores. Players can rescue each other too.
  • Arena – A 2-minute time trial, Arena Mode sets the challenge of defeating as many enemies as possible to get the highest score.
  • Pipiruville – Defeat enemies during the game to rescue Pipiru aliens, keep at it and players will unlock Pipiruville and develop their village. Check in and see them!

Oh, but there’s more.

A Truxton Extreme Physical Edition?!

Yep, Truxton Extreme will get the physical treatment, launching on the same date. It’ll be available on PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 (full game on cart!), and will go for between $39.99 and $49.99 in price, depending on the version.

There’s also a Master Edition that will have a hardcover art book, a soft cover manga, a 2-disc CD jewelcase with soundtrack and a lenticular card with a cool skull-bomb design. The Master Edition will also have a Pipiru plushie, if that’s your thing.

Check out the new trailer below and prepare for shooting goodness. Bring your a-game skills, though!
