Hey, kids, if you grew up with a Sega Genesis or Mega Drive, you more than likely came across a game called Steel Empire, a fun shooter with a few great mechanical touches. No? You missed it? Well, not to worry, because it’s coming back.
ININ Games has announced that The Legend of Steel Empire will arrive both physically and digitally on Nintendo Switch starting next week, January 23rd. The game will also debut for the PlayStation 4 and 5 sometime this year as well.
Known as Empire of Steel In Europe, and Koutetsu Teikoku in Japan, The Steel Empire is a 1992 shoot-‘em-up for the Sega Mega Drive developed by HOT-B. Recognized for its distinctive diesel-punk aesthetic, The Steel Empire combines elements of steampunk and late-19th-century industrial design, making it a visual trailblazer in the shooter genre.
Here are some key features for the game:
– Fantastic game mechanics, amazing gameplay and awesome sound effects!
– A total of seven stages containing two different bosses each
– Four different difficulties, each offering a different experience
– Steel Empire also contains a quantity of different options including stock, credit, hit stop, button config & sound
– Wonderful retro graphics with steam punk design reminiscent of games from the SNES
The pre-order page is right here, and the digital edition will go for $24.99. We can’t imagine the physical edition being much more, so that’s good news for you collectors.
