Back in 2017, the VR game The Invisible Hours turned quite a few heads. Featuring an all-star cast and the work of screenwriter Rob Yescombe (he recently worked on Jackpot! for Amazon Prime), it received critical acclaim across the board. But with the closure of development studio Tequila Works, it seems to have been forgotten about. However, Yescombe is looking to change that.
He recently announced that he has acquired the rights to The Invisible Hours, and is working on finding partners on potentially remastering it for today’s market. On top of that, he’s also looking to do a big-screen adaptation of some sort, though obviously the game project will come first.
In a statement, Yescombe noted, “I adored making The Invisible Hours. Truly, the best creative experience of my life. Fans still reach out to me, even after all this time – they love it as much as I do. The VR hardware market has grown massively since 2017 – multiple millions of units – making The Invisible Hours a prime candidate to remaster for a new generation.”
For those that missed it the first time around, The Invisible Hours is an intricate murder mystery, where players freely explore a complex web of interwoven stories within a sprawling mansion. It tells the story of a group of strangers who receive a curious invitation from enigmatic inventor, Nikola Tesla, offering each of them the chance to make amends for their darkest wrongdoings. But when the last guest arrives at Tesla’s isolated mansion laboratory, they find him dead – murdered. Disgraced Swedish detective, Gustaf Gustav, vows to find the killer amongst the other guests: a blind butler, a convicted murderer, the world’s most famous actress, Tesla’s former assistant, the son of a wealthy railroad magnate, and rival inventor Thomas Edison. But none of these people are what they seem.
We’ll see about talking to Yescombe and see what the plans are for the resurrection. If you’re curious, though, you can check out the original trailer for The Invisible Hours below!
