It’s taken quite a bit of time, but Taito’s EGRET II Mini is finally available for order. Whether you get one of the limited edition models from Strictly Limited or the standard version from Gamesrocket, you’ll find this fun little unit jam-packed with retro gaming goodness.

But if you need further convincing as to why you should pick up this little wonder, don’t worry – we have ten. Read on to see why you shouldn’t hesitate to add this to your collection.

It Comes With 40 Pre-Installed Games, With More Via SD Card

The EGRET II Mini features 40 different Taito classics, including Elevator Action, Bubble Bobble, and more – and if you pick up the supplementary SD card, you can add even more games, such as Arkanoid titles and much more.

The Screen Rotates!

The unit comes with a 5-inch 4:3 monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution, and what’s more, you can rotate it. That means being able to play vertically scrolling ‘shmups’ in their original resolution, or enjoying the original arcade monitor setup!

HDMI Output For Play On TV

That’s right, if the small display doesn’t quite get the job done for you, you can connect the EGRET Mini II to a television and play in a larger resolution. It definitely works if you’ve got a home arcade you’ve been looking to expand.

Adjustable Features

If you need to get a leg up in some of your favorite games, you can use different options to enhance your gameplay experience. These include save states, adjustable lives and even being able to use rapid fire. These will definitely make some experiences a little easier. (Features may vary per game.)

An Awesome Six Button Layout

If you want that fighting game style, or you just want to hunker back to the good ol’ days of arcade gaming, the mini-joystick and buttons will feel like a real winner. And they’re perfect for fighting games as well.

More Controllers Anyone?

Want to make the EGRET II Mini an ideal multiplayer set-up? Then get three additional controllers (sold separately) and make it a party night at your house. Or maybe just get one controller and have a fun two-player session of Bubble Bobble.

The Special Editions Are Top Notch

If you don’t mind paying a few hundred dollars for the total package, the EGRET Mini II comes with a cool collector’s package, complete with music CD’s, a special book, all sorts of arcade art, and an awesome box. It’s ideal for anyone who’s a Taito Station fan.

Rare Games Are Included

The EGRET Mini II has a number of rare titles you can’t play on normal consoles. These include Cameltry, Cadash, Elevator Action Returns, Darius Gaiden, and many others. Feel free to look through the full game list and see what’s available!

The Paddle Controller Is Awesome

Even though you’ll have to pay extra for it, the supplementary paddle controller has great functionality with games like Cameltry and the Arkanoid titles. It’s a must for anyone that wants to get really into old-school style of play.

The Early Days of Taito’s Legacy

Along with the classic Space Invaders, the EGRET Mini II also features many early Taito releases to explore the starting days of the company. These include Lunar Rescue, QIX, Pirate Pete and even a Lupin the Thirdclassic game!
