Hello everyone, today’s game is Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo Developed and Published by Nintendo. Released in 1990.

Summary: This is a big one for me it was the first game I played on my SNES and it’s still my favourite game of all time.

Story: Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach Toadstool are having a well earned rest after saving the Mushroom Kingdom in Super Mario 3. They decide the ideal place to take a vacation is a place named Dinosaur Land.
Bowser and his Koopalings have over plans and Kidnaps Princes Peach. Mario and Lugi go on the search for Peach and bump in to a huge egg the egg hatches and out pops Yoshi. He goes on to tell Mario and Luigi that his pals have been sealed in eggs by some nasty turtles. So it’s time for another massive adventure for Mario and Luigi and they will need some help from their friends on the way.

Gameplay: Super Mario World is a 2D platformer. Mario World has 96 exits and 72 courses to play through. You start the game on a world map the worlds are:

World 1 Yoshi’s Island
W2 Donut Plains
W3 Vanilla Dome
W4 Twin Bridges
W5 Forest of Illusion
W6 Chocolate Island
W7 Valley of Bowser
W8 Star World
World 9 is Special Zone.

All worlds have a path you unlock as you complete the usual levels, bonus levels and castles on the way to take on Bowsers Koopalings.

All of the Koopalings are here including my favourite Lemmy (MotorHead). Controls are simple with button A to Spin Jump, B to Jump, X and Y to Dash, Special ability and to Interact and you can scroll camera with L and R button. Basically this is classic mario get to the end of the level collecting coins and the 5 Dragon coins in each course and break the big gate at the end. You also get a middle gate to help you out, if you die you start back from that point.

Everything is in this game the classic characters, music, power ups old and new this game has it all. The one huge difference in this onr over the others is having Yoshi on board there are 4 Yoshi”s Green, Red, Blue and Yellow all with different abilities to help you out on your adventure.

Graphics: stunning is one word to sum them up everything in Mario World is so colourful and vibrant it’s a pleasure to look at. This was one of the first games on the SNES but it still holds up to being one of the best looking games on the system. The animation of the characters is wonderful with Yoshi’s little legs moving so fast. I like the way Mario’s hat comes of his head when you jump. Super Mario World is where we found out about Mode 7 and what it was cable of. Like the layers to the backgrounds everything looked so good. I will never forget the end fight with Bowser when he looks like he is going to come out of the screen in his Koopa Clown Car.

Sound: the sound effects and music are I think the best a Mario game has ever had they got everything perfect with this one and it’s definitely my favourite music in any game.

Replay Value: loads of replay value this game has so many secrets to find and tons of levels to explore. If you unlock everything you turn the whole world map in to Autumn (Fall) and some of the classic enemies have a different appearance.

Final thoughts: I think I have said a lot already and I’ve hardly touched what’s in this game. I never mentioned all the cool moves Mario and Yoshi can do. This one game is what makes 16bit gaming so special and after 30 years this is still in my opinion the best game ever made.
