Developer Image & Form have announced that their critically and commercially successful 2D platformer, SteamWorld Dig, will be coming to Xbox One this summer through the ID@Xbox programme.
Already available on PC, Mac, Linux, 3DS, Wii U, PS Vita and PS4, this will mark SteamWorld Dig’s debut on an Xbox console. One of the requirements of the ID@Xbox parity clause is to introduce a new feature unique to the Xbox One should a title already be released on competing platforms so Image & Form have teased that there will be an in-game Easter egg for players to discover upon SteamWorld Dig’s release.
SteamWorld Dig is an exploration game in which you are encouraged to dig for treasures and secrets under an old mining town named Tumbleton, incorporating both RPG and Metroidvania elements. It seems like a shrewd move on the Swedish studio’s part to launch the game on Xbox One in order to garner interest and excitement from Xbox users ahead of the release of its universal and platform-agnostic sequel SteamWorld Heist.
SteamWorld Dig has been assigned a tentative release window of late May but we’ll be sure to let you know a firm date once it’s announced on XBLGamerhub.
