With Halloween just around the corner it’s natural for our game libraries and developers to turn there gaze onto the horror genre. Blue Wizard Digital is no exception to this rule but they didn’t want to release a traditional horror game. Taking inspiration from the golden age of horror, the 80’s they have developed a tongue in cheek tribute to classic horror and blended it with a sliding block puzzle game. Of course there were more than just horror classics such as Halloween and Friday the 13th but cheaply made knock offs aimed to fill the reels of drive in’s and cinemas to feed the new love for the horror movie epidemic.
Slayaway Camp is set out to run like a series of sequels to an imaginary film of the same name. Created as one of the low rent rip off films to the horror genre of slasher flicks it stars a skull masked murderer known as Skullface, i know imaginative, starting in the traditional summer camp grounds but that takes players to the strangest of places such as beach resorts, amusement parks and…… Space?
Of course variety is the spice of life and Slayaway offers you plenty of that with over 60 killers to play taking inspiration from some of the most unlikely horror sources such as killer snowmen, mutant hillbilly, Kevin, Mr Tophat Jones, Killer hot dogs and even Skullfaces mum gets in on the action. These killers are introduced as you progress through the title while some are unlocked by completing specific tasks.
The special console-only Butcher’s Cut edition is the bloodiest version of Slayaway Camp with more puzzles, more killers, and more gore. Over 300 murderous puzzle levels to massacre your way through. Over 60 gore packs with dreadfully over the top kill scenes to shock and entertain and starring voices from Mark Meer, Commander Shepard from Mass Effect as Skullface and Derek Mears, Jason from Friday the 13th as Jessica and no horror flick or game is complete without its sound track by legendary Canadian group GNÜ TRUNTION
