For those thirsty gladiators eager for more content to kill their opponents in the arena, you will be pleased to know that Microsoft and Crytek have announced the release of “Duel of Fates”. This is the third downloadable content package for Ryse: Son of Rome.

The new content features two new arena modes round-to-round maps in “Invictus” and “Barbarous”. There is also a survival map titled “Island”, which will be perfect for those wanting to test their skills against hordes of enemies.

The maps are loosely based on historical events. Invictus was inspired by The Servile Wars which were a series of slave uprisings. Barbarous was based on the numerous barbarian invasions that helped spur the fall of the Roman Empire. In these maps, gladiators are tasked with seizing and holding special landmarks such as the God Tree, lighting wicker men on fire, defending Emperor Nero from harm and avoiding numerous firetraps and arrow jets.

In Island, the survival map, Gladiators are already bleeding. The challenge here is to fight off an endless series of combatants, pulling off executions to ensure the restoration of their health. There will be limited combat space and your health will be constantly diminishing so there will be a sense of urgency to kill the enemies quickly. Tension is heightened further by a barrage of arrows raining down on the battlefield.

In addition to the new maps, two new gladiator skins will be available for their combatants, both which were taken from the single-player: Glott the barbarian chief and “Ryse” protagonist Marius Titus.

Duel of Fates is available now for download and can be bought as a standalone pack for £4.79, or along with the season pass for £15.99.
