After all the rumor and wild speculation over the past few months, we finally have confirmation. Harmonix, teaming up with Mad Catz, are bringing Rock Band 4 to the current generation of consoles later this year.
Rock Band 4, the first title of the hit music franchise coming to Xbox One, will expand the franchise in “innovative ways”, following on from ideas brought on by Harmonix themselves and more importantly, the fans. Harmonix Chief Executive Officer Steve Janiak claims that they’re focusing the experience that the fans have told them that they love, allowing them to “evolve established gameplay in meaningful ways that we can’t wait to share with everyone later this year”.
So what about all that DLC that was bought last generation? Well, Rock Band 4 will support over 2000 tracks, in addition to those on disc. This means that anyone who has purchased DLC will be able to transfer these from the last generation to the current at no additional charge. This means that the Rock Band library will be absolutely massive for anyone jumping into the franchise for the first time, and will be instantly familiar to those who have been there since the beginning.
There’s no word yet on whether your set of old plastic instruments will be playable on the new consoles yet, but it is on the developers minds, as many people have told them via polls that they do own the instruments still and would rather not buy new ones purely because of a new console. Rock Band 4 will be released sometime in 2015.
