I’m a game designer at heart. I love the whole process of game development so I naturally check out the games that are trying to sprout their wings and have lofty dreams. I know the difficulty of development and I have great respect for the teams and developers who fund themselves and their projects in search of success. Here are a few titles I came across that I think you should keep an eye on.
First of all, Blazing Griffin is probably the most well known developer currently at Resonate. They are showcasing the The Ship Remastered and for those who haven’t played it on early access, its a clever murder hunt game where you must find a weapon and kill your target without being seen by security or a witness, the whole time you must evade a hunter hunting you, but you don’t know who they are. Since early access, The Ship has been featured on a lot of Lets play videos and the team are developing a whole host of characters. If you go along this weekend you can hunt down Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton with a Claymore two handed sword, that sentence deserves an award. Sadly the ship is still on PC but we can hope it will one day make its way to Xbox Game Preview.
Tony Gowland, quite well known in the Scottish Game Development scene was there with Binaries (apologies for no screenshot). Having a go on Binaries I highly enjoyed the dual control and puzzle solving. Tony admitted there being some inspiration from Thomas was Alone and the game sure feels like it with clever comedic narrative and highly intuitive level design I am excited to play the full game. Tony informed us of 101 levels in total as well as a ranking system which could be used to compete with friends. Better yet, Binaries should be be coming to consoles on the 30 August but we’ll keep you posted on this one.

Two titles that caught my eye were Rebound and Super Undercover Slime Agent. Rebound (the lower image) is a multiplayer game that feels like TRON meets Dodgeball. It’s super fast-paced and highly enjoyable with 4 players. The third year team from Glasgow Caledonian University have created multiple levels as well as different pick ups and some amusing animations. The Rebound team are actually part of the Dare to be Digital fest in Dundee. So if you are over that way have a go.
Super Undercover Slime Agent is more than a mouthful to say. The team is entirely self funded from Ayr and are showcasing their puzzle platformer. The game is on both PC and android and features multiple levels, worlds and a whole level designer. There are still some patches to do but the game can be bought and then owned on any platform form their website. It’s an ambitious team and I respect them for it.
There are a handful of other Indie devs at Resonate this weekend and although some games won’t look like your Star Wars Battlefront quality be sure to give them a go. They may surprise you yet.
