Oh, look, Steam Next Fest is happening again! And that means a plethora of fresh new demos to check out. Of course, our buddies over at Acclaim have several games that you should check out already, but their latest – Pixel Washer – promises to clean up on sales when it releases this year.

In the game, you portray a pig. But not just any pig. A cool pig that gives a damn about cleaning up the environment. That’s right, this game takes the Powerwash enforcement to task as you spray everything to make it nice and clean again.

But this is no copycat of Powerwash. It’s an adorable overhead shooting/cleaning game where you can upgrade equipment and explore new filth-covered worlds. All while driving your wonderful pig cleaning mobile. Yes, that’s a thing.

The demo is promising, and you can check it out right now. Read on to learn why Pixel Washer may just clean away your doldrums with a fun summer game experience.

Pixel Washer Lets You Clean House – And More

In the game, you portray an ambitious pig with a simple goal in life – make the world less dirty! But obviously some ne’er do wells have taken it upon themselves to dirty the place up. But with washer in hand, it’s up to you to make things better.

Pixel Washer utilizes a great shooting system, where you can aim with precision using your analog stick. What’s more, you have plenty of resources to work with, so you can clean things stem to stern without having to worry about running out. It helps to have better tools, though, so you have the option to do so with increased equipment. That includes a triple blaster, amongst other things. More cleaning powah!

The gameplay works simply but wonderfully, and the demo presents some interesting scenarios to check out. Obviously the full game holds more (demon cleaning?!), but this is a nice start. And you can see your progress with ease, as everything is highlighted with words once the job is done. Miss a spot? Just go over it again!

Though it doesn’t quite have a competitive edge – save for faster cleaning times – Pixel Washer has a lot of promise thus far. It feels great and has a nice, cool approach that players of all ages will enjoy. I just wish you could drive that pig mobile around and drop water balloons on everything. WAGE WAR ON DIRT!

Pixel Washer Looks and Sounds Adorable

To go along with its fun gameplay, Pixel Washer takes a simple 16-bit style approach. You go through this overhead world, looking for stuff to clean. And it’s easy to keep track of what work needs to happen where.

The levels themselves look typical, but the dirt effects are incredibly well done, and I love the spray effects. Plus our hero is just so cute, ain’t he? AIN’T HE?!

Then you have the music, which, so far, is quite pleasant. It sits quietly in the background as you spray your troubles away, and you just feel soothed by the whole thing. Plus the sound effects are cute, too.

Get To Pixel Washin’, You Fool!

Pixel Washer is set to release later this year for Steam/PC, and hopefully consoles as well. (I’m sure it will.) And the demo, which you can play here, is a real triumph in getting you excited for the game. Yes, you’re doing household chores. But what entertaining household chores they are! If only real life was this enthralling. It does work on Steam Deck, but I wish it had controller support. Maybe an update will fix that.

We’ll cover more of Pixel Washer upon its release, but, yeah, wishlist this one. I mean, who doesn’t want a cleaner pool? Done by a pig, no less?

The Pixel Washer demo is available now on Steam/PC. It’ll likely release for consoles as well when it arrives later this year!
