Nintendo’s hybrid machine has been the top-Selling console in the U.S. for 35 Out of 36 consecutive months.

The Switch has three different models; base Switch, Switch Lite (handheld only) and Switch OLED (bigger screen)

Nintendo has reported that sales of the Switch in November in the US made it the highest grossing system that month with over one million units sold.

The staggering figure was reported by the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the US, with combined sales of the base Switch, Switch Lite and the OLED model hitting 1.13 million in the month of November (making it the best selling console of that month).

November’s sales are an important fixture to the console manufacturers because they encompass the shopping week of Thanksgiving and Black Friday and this report now means that the Nintendo Switch has been the top selling video game console for 35 out of the last 36 months.

“With a wide-ranging library of games and three options to choose from between Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, the Nintendo Switch family of systems offers something for everyone this holiday season,” said Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser. “As we head into 2022 and the sixth year of Nintendo Switch, the system continues to see strong demand. We look forward to even more people adding Nintendo Switch to their households!”

The Switch popularity is down to many factors. The fact that it can be played both on a TV and instantly on the go (apart from the Switch Lite which is a dedicated handheld) makes it unique against Microsoft and Sony’s more expensive gaming boxes which can only be played on a TV.

The recent success of Metroid Dread may also have played a factor and families will likely enjoy the latest Mario Party Superstars, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl.

With an ever expanding back-catalogue of indie games from the last two generations and remasters of titles that never made it to Nintendo’s consoles (Bioshock Remastered Collection, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition and plenty more) there is a wealth of options for every type of gamer. And with the backbone of Nintendo’s first party hits such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Switch will be arguably one of Nintendo’s strongest consoles in their entire legacy.
