It’s seems an eternity has passed since I first saw the first details of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The Kickstarter promised an RPG adventure in a true medieval world. From the looks of things, they have stayed true to their word with the development of an independent combat system and the choice to pursue any medieval life.

This week, Warhorse Studios have revealed new details on their medieval sim. The team showcase the in depth armour layering as well as item quality and survival elements. Here’s the video they released:

The video explains that your character evolves how you play, you fight more, you fight better. Speaking to villagers and helping out, better prices on new gear. Warhorse Studios also highlight that not only is this an RPG, but a historic adventure which appeals to me on so many levels.

It goes on to talk about how weapons react. I get the feeling the team are moving away from basic numbers of damage on weapons as they go into detail about blunt weapons are better for armoured opponents and that a big two handed sword is durable but heavy as well as slow. The layer system for armour creates a much more in depth survival to the game. Considering you have no superpower, armour is your health with multiple layers offering different protection as well as the message your character portrays.

The survival mechanic brings a whole new ball game. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the player must sleep as well as eat but so most the non playable characters. This leaves NPCs vulnerable at times as well as make the gameplay more challenging. I like how injuries can be a permanent hindrance in combat as well as being too tired to fight. It adds to the realism of the genre Warhorse Studios are aiming for.
