Square Enix have become very good at iterating game ideas that are successful, with Lords of the Fallen they have touched on the “Souls type” game and with this new title Life if Strange there are similarities to Tell Tale games (Wolf Among Us, Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands) and D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die.

Life is Strange looks a little strange, but that’s not a bad thing at all. It appears to focus around a young high school girl who has the ability to travel in time to change events. This sounds possibly like a boring idea to many people, but I really enjoy episodic games and believe suspension to be built up more with each approaching episode.

With the trailer showing a decent looking plot and boasting characters that can be seen as “relate-able” to some people. Though I can not help but notice the games protagonist appears to be female, is this just to appease people in the wake of all the controversy about females in games or was this the thoughts from the get go? Though in truth it does not matter because the game looks interesting enough to stand on its feet without any scandal to draw attention to the title. With the first episode due in early 2015 this looks to start the new year with an interesting game.

This game totally caught me by surprise as I knew nothing about it at all, and from the first impressions I think it has a lot of potential. Hopefully Square Enix can put enough of a spin on it to make it there own and not just make it a clone of a Tell Tale game or other successful episodic game series.

Life is Strange will be available on Xbox One and Xbox 360 in early 2015
