I have a very important question for your awesome people out there! Do you like smashing things? Do you like the thrill of taking a weapon to the screen of a TV? How about smashing glass windows? Getting into trouble?

Well then you are officially my new best friend! No, of course, I’m not crazy just the rockstar in this game is and he’s got a new boss.

Yes, your new boss happens to be the Prince of Darkness himself and that happens to be the big red, the master of all evil. THE DEVIL!

Welcome to Wolf & Wood Interactive’s new and improved Hotel R’n’R, previously making some of the best VR horrors to date such as The Exorcist: Legion VR which I plan to review very soon when it releases on PSVR2, and A Chair in a Room: Greenwater!

I have been playing this now for a couple of weeks and I must say after all the damage I’ve done on it…

Let’s just say I need to be a very good boy from now on. I definitely didn’t push an old maid over… I would never do such a thing (smiles hoping a halo appears above my head).

Anyway, let us take on the mantle of Hell’s new bad boy and smash up some hotels, shall we?

WARNING: Not for those who don’t like criminal damage and adult themes! You must be this fun to ride this elevator plus be a destructive person to enjoy this crazy journey, so what are we waiting for? Let’s go!

Welcome To Hell!

Story

Hotel R’n’R puts you in the shoes of a rockstar who has a passion for destroying and smashing up things that don’t belong to him, at first you think this is all it is going to be, but NOPE!

You are summoned by the Prince of Darkness to sell your soul to him in exchange for being able to smash hotel rooms to your content.

No catch other than smashing as much as you can before you’re caught by rather the maid, hotel manager, or even the old bill (cops).

The more things you smash the bigger the rewards, accumulating money and becoming Infamous! The world tour which is our story mode puts you in 6 different hotel rooms or suites that will become more expensive and larger as you progress.

At the beginning of each level, you will have tasks you can complete to become Infamous; these are optional but doing this will help you to continue to the next hotel.

You will also see an option called “Riders”. These are weapons and items you have bought from the pawnshop with your earnings to help cause more chaos and mayhem!

You can only take a certain amount and if you do take the C4, remember to also take the remote trigger otherwise yeah… it won’t work duh. I know that now, but I didn’t before, so this game helps you learn new things too!

Remember the more damage you do and the more you make will put you in the leaderboards!

At the end of every destructive round, you will see the hotel billing and the items you have destroyed plus the fees such as the Devil Corp Platform fee, Hospital fee if you injure yourself, Lawyer fee for you know being a criminal, and lastly the resurrection fee if you are killed.

So, um yeah don’t get killed, okay? Good! Glad we are all on the same page!

What A Hell Of A Job!

Mini Games

I must say who would’ve thought working for the devil would be so fun…

Anyway, welcome to the devil’s special way of making money, so no need to get Only Devil or become a stripper because now you can play a pack full of fun minigames that can hear you the big bucks fast!

You have The Sins of Lust; this is not what you think trust me.

You have a dancing body that you must throw pieces of body parts such as arms, facial features, and a few I don’t think I should mention in this review.

The items you place in the right place as the body dances and turns around this is basically a stripper without the bikini and as such you will earn money for any body part you place on the body.

Anywhere will equal a total of $135.00 and if say you put the arm in the right place you will earn a whopping $210.00 remember this is each.

This can be tricky as the body moves and it is harder than it looks to get the pieces on the body. The money you get from this is added to your cash you can use in the pawnshop for new weapons, clothing, and more.

The Sin of Sloth is probably the most difficult one to get full points for as you must move your arms to the correct position to hit the markers at the right moment, kind of like a Guitar Hero mode without the rocking music!

The funny twist this is the devil’s workout and because he cannot be bothered and feels lazy you have to take over his body and do his workout for him.

The more points you get the more money you earn. The Sin of Pride is gardening with a hedge trimmer where you must match the topiary and get it to look as close as you can to the match, chopping or cutting through and hoping you don’t get an impossible shape.

Oh, and you have a time limit, good luck! The Sin of Green is all about stealing items and putting them into your trunk, things like phones, watches, champagne, and even cash.

You are currently underwater, in a swimming pool, and these items will float all over the place. Any items you leave will be put into evidence! The Sin of Envy is bad due to what you are about to do.

You must smash apart a vehicle that seems to belong to the Pope with as many items as you can, item can break so you will need to use other items too!

The more damage you do the bigger the cut. Completing mini-games rewards you with codes and even codes for the safes you’ll find in the hotels, so if you want to earn money fast do these!

All these mini-games can be found at the Mini Games Purgatory which you can visit at any time using the elevator.

They have added 6 new mini-games with the new update, my favourite has to be William Hell as this mode gives you 7 bullets and 7 maids with apples on their heads…

Thankfully I am a really good shot and this rakes in a lot of money if you hit all 7 apples and don’t kill the poor maids. Not your thing?

Try Slippy, Floppy Fun, where you have to slide a fish to the end of a plank, basically Curling, the more points the bigger the reward.

Fancy throwing plates and catching them? Catch of the Day is exactly this but be careful as one wrong move and the plate becomes like my dreams, broken. Skee-Heads is your Skee Ball game type instead you throw heads into a hole and not balls.

Soul Muncher is another good one, using a proton cannon, you must catch the souls and shoot them into the muncher monster’s mouth, more points more money!

Lastly, Pew Pew, Grow Up, another fun shooting gallery-type game where you must shoot as many targets as you can but be careful as the devil will pop up, and shooting him is a bad decision and will clear your entire score.

Are You Challenging Me?

Challenge Mode and No Risk

Are you up for a challenge? This is a remix of all different game modes such as hotel smashing fun and mini-games, where you and people around the world go head-to-head racking up points in a series of challenges to get their name on the leaderboard.

This is optional but my god is it fun, I mean how cool would it feel to be number 1 on the board right?!

So, you had a rough day? Can’t be bothered with a time limit? It’s okay we have all been there and Wolf & Wood Interactive knows that feeling and has added the perfect mode if you fancy taking out your frustration on things that don’t belong to you.

No Risk is your sandbox mode where you can take out your anger and even get creative, the hotels you unlock in the world tour are added once completed, and you have no time limit also or any interruptions from the staff or security!

The devil paid the staff to take a personal day so no stress. Unfortunately, you will earn no money as the devil doesn’t pay for easy.

Oh, and you can still die in this mode!

I’d Buy That For A Dollar

Pawn To Die

Now you may recall me mentioning earlier about a pawnshop. Well down in Hell, they have the hottest new trends in a place called Pawn To Die!

Picking up the scanner you can go around scanning the bar codes and spending your hard-earned money on things that will make destroying even better! You can even buy new outfits that will make you like a true rockstar, or just dress like a gangster!

Items in the store include guns, explosives, and things I have never thought of using to smash things. These items are known as “Riders” in the world tour mode and can take up to 5 with you.

If you want to test them out you can go to the backroom and try out the range where you can kill paper versions of the game’s creators, developers, and other members of the team.

I did not do this (looks left and then right) IM INNOCENT I TELL YOU!

But honestly, this game is full of fun things to do and things to try and buy.

I Came In Like A Wrecking Ball!

Graphics and Audio

Now the game uses a cartoon, animated art style so don’t expect anything wow factor like blood pouring out of your hand, though you can cut and break your hand so that’s cool and the detail is put there. Your main focus here is the detail and the environment.

The hotel suites are all different, you won’t find the exact same or any copy-and-paste jobs here, I love the fact there are also secrets and fun bits and pieces added to find.

The damage that is caused is on the realistic side, if you punch a plate it’s going to break, you take a bat to a fridge it’s going to break.

The damage you do depends on the weapon you use, you can even set fire to items that will set a light, of course, this isn’t anything big but the detail and how it works is a nice touch.

No, you cannot burn the whole hotel to the ground. Character models are pretty basic, though you can customise yours with a few different outfits.

Performance is crisp, with no glitches or issues present, plus Hotel R’n’R has no frame drops or stuttering from all the damage you cause.

The lighting is well done, with no issues with it being too bright or too dark.

The animation of the game is very immersive, you have to use both hands to pick up a TV so there are signs of some realism included with this game.

The sound quality is good, even if you are far from the door, you can hear the voices of the characters such as the maid, hotel manager, and the cops/security on what seems to be a sort of walkie talkie which also indicates how long you have before they arrive.

Music is okay, nothing perfect but it isn’t bad and from the description of the music in general the developers admit, or as they quote “Scuzzy guitars, 80’s synths and some booming 808 kicks.

All played by unprofessional musicians who can barely string a sentence together, nevermind a riff.” And this is actually included on their Steam page.

The sound effects of the destruction and weapons are well done, again pretty much what you would expect from a gun or explosive.

Voice acting is okay, nothing AAA or Hollywood and more comedy than anything but the actors do a good job with their roles.

Options, Options, Options…

Options, Controls, and Comfort

So, to start the player settings will be how you would control your movement and comfort, you can choose any depending on how you feel comfortable especially if you suffer from motion sickness.

You can also make the move speed to anything from slow to very fast. Rotation again depends on your comfort; I prefer smooth as turning makes me feel sick more but that’s me personally.

And you can choose a different style for crouching as well.

Again, this is all based on how you prefer to play. Gameplay lets you choose your interaction style such as hold or toggle.

Choose to have in-game music on or off. The vibration and if you also want the vibration through the headset.

For the PSVR2 you can choose to turn on adaptive triggers. This is such a wicked feature to have in a lot of games and having this on makes the game feel even more immersive.

And lastly, your system setting.

If you like having vignettes when playing, in my honest opinion I can’t stand this, but the option is available through the player settings under move style and rotation.

This is called Fade so if you want that option then it is available to put on.

Final Thoughts

Now I have finished working for the devil and I have to put this, I don’t actually work for the devil it is just a game.

But the game is truly fun, I have played and reviewed destructive games like this one in the past, like Smash Stuff VR which you can read on our site, and I must say having all these options and mini-games and just so much immersion bits and pieces this is a game I knew nothing about and was eager to try after a recommendation and I must say…

Thank you so much for allowing me to review this and amazing work to all the team Wolf & Wood Interactive, you have made a fun and smashing game!

All in all, the game lets you do exactly what you want and honestly more games like this, please! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my review and for the support as always, keep gaming and remember to check out Hotel R’n’R below.
