Its been 7 days since receiving my sample set of Atherton style glasses from Gunnar, I’m ready to share my thoughts!

Now when it comes to hardware, I’m not one to review a product right out of the box. I like to put kit through its paces, use and abuse just as you would in everyday use, and see if it holds up.

I was fortunate enough to have this opportunity to review the ‘Atherton’ glasses direct from Gunnar, and they really do hold up! Read on to see how I got on…

What I’m loving about gunner thus far is they have an extensive range of optic styles to suit everyone, variations on frame colour, and lens tint. If you require a prescription lens, they can even accommodate this too! They also have collaborations with big names in the gaming world if you wish to support your favourite title, and they even have a full marvel range!

Style and Comfort

I’ll start here and let’s be honest, we’re only human, and I’ve no shame in stating I am drawn to products based on their aesthetics before looking into the science… As someone who wears glasses daily, and these pesky human tendencies, I’ve made enough purchases into ‘big brand’ glasses that have not lasted long at all.

Atherton:

As noted above, I have reviewed the Atherton frame glasses. They were available in 2 colours:  Onyx and Gold. I’ve always been a sucker for round glasses, and as soon as I spotted these on the website, I was instantly drawn in.

Their sleek design boast not only a timeless design with a modern edge, but weighing only 24 grams, they are light enough to wear throughout the day without causing distraction or discomfort. The hinges feel robust compared to other brands I’ve tested, although they didn’t have sprung barrel feature. Mrs Legg is currently reviewing one of the Gunner ‘Marvel Series’ glasses, and these have sprung hinges, so I guess that comes with the level of your purchase. I guess only time will tell how they hold up, but a week in they feel solid.

The arms have a gentle curve and are coated in a firm clear plastic which fit snuggly over the ears, holding them firmly in place enough for any daily activity without any worry of them moving or even worse, falling off.

I like the fact they are branded on both arms, and across the top of the lens in a small discreet font. These branding is not visible to the wearer, but noticeable enough to become a talking point with my colleagues at work this week. I will add they were all very impressed with the design too!

Health Benefits and functionality

In a heavily reliant digital world, where wearable health products are unavoidable fitbits, fancy shoes, etc, we should now all be aware of what damage blue light can cause.

If you’ve been living in a cave, then dry eye, muscular eye strain, headaches, migraines, dizziness, and many other problems can arise for over exposure, and I’m sure I’ve suffered from most of these at some point.

If like me, much of your work and free time are spent in front of a digital device, you really will see an improvement in not only your eye health, but also your mental well-being too. Reducing eye strain will allow you to sleep better at night, which in turn will leave you feeling more energised and happier… It almost sounds too good to be true, but I’m already seeing these benefits just 7 days in.

Gunnar have gone to great lengths with their patented lens design, blocking 65% of harmful blue light emitted from digital screens, which would appear to be unmatched by the competition.

I’m not sure if this a coincidence or placebo effect, but after the first full day wearing these glasses, I felt like a had a better night’s sleep, and woke up before my alarm feeling refreshed. Trust me, in my busy life with 2 jobs and 3 children.. that simply doesn’t happen!

Conclusion

I came into this review with an open mind, although I initially felt they may be a little gimmicky. After a solid week of use during work, gaming and doom scrolling, I am completely won over. The glasses feel completely natural to wear to a point where I forget they are on, and when I do notice, I’m reminded how stylish they are.

I would love the opportunity to try out some glasses with my prescription to see how i get on with them.

If you are in the market for glasses for gaming, or any other purpose for that matter, I highly recommend checking out the range available on the Gunnar website as I’m sure there’ll be something there to tickle your fancy!

As for the science within their lenses, time will tell with prolonged use, but I think they’re on to something and I will certainly continue to wear them.

At their current price point, I would highly recommend the atherton frame. Check out thefull range here

Thank you to Gunar for your collaboration with us at Gamerhub, and providing me with this review unit.
