Fans of the console RTS set in the Halo franchise, Halo Wars, can finally get a continuation of the story of the Spirit of Fire next year, as a sequel has been announced. Halo Wars 2, coming from 343 Industries and Creative Assembly, the team behind the Total War series, will be released in the Fall of 2016 on both Xbox One and the Windows 10 platforms.

Not much is known about the game so far, but within the announcement teaser we can gleam a few ideas about the game. Brutes may have a larger role in the game, and of course, there are more than a couple of Spartans that do appear.

Halo Wars, originally developed by the minds behind Age of Empires, was an example of how Real Time Strategy games can work on a console if created from the ground up, rather than adapted to the controller. It was a fantastic game that gave us a new perspective on the Halo Franchise, and what could have been if the original game had continued on from it’s original conception as an RTS game itself.
