Greetings one and all and welcome back to another Games Release Roundup. The roundup this week has come a little late as I didn't realise that yesterday was Monday because of the bank holiday. On with the details of the first game this week!
Battleborn - 03 May
The first release you'll find this week is none other than Gearbox Software's & 2K's first person shooter Battleborn and there's a lot to say about this!
Battleborn has a space fantasy setting, where every species in the game have fled to a planet called Solus after a catastrophic event has destroyed most of the planets and stars in the solar system. Long story short, all the different races are split into factions who help each other to pick and send out their strongest fighters, not surprisingly called Battleborn, who are sent out to fight Varelsi, the origin of all the destruction.
The difference you'll find with Battleborn compared to other first-person shooters is the format and structure that is similar to a multiplayer online battle arena. Each match will also contain a levelling system that resets at the start of a new match. Gain enough skills points in a match and you can pick various skills and abilities through each characters unique Helix Tree.
You'll 25 characters to go through til you find your favourite each with their own abilities and weapons. Each character also has their own "ultimate ability". You'll also be able to cast magic and area-of-effect attacks.
The game also comes with a campaign mode, which you can play solo or co-operatively with four other players. You can also expect to see an interconnected world and an objective driven narrative. In addition to the campaign there are three modes called Meltdown, an Arena mode named Incursion, where you'll need to destroy enemy bases, and Devastation, where you'll need to capture bases.
If you don't already know it's been confirmed that the game needs a persistent internet connection due to progression and the saving systems, which I know will be an annoyance to some of you.

The Park - 03 May
If a first person shooter isn't your thing and you're more into your psychological adventure games then The Park, developed by Funcom and also released on May 03, will be right up your street.
You play as Lorraine, a single mother whose son , Callum, has decided to act like a little bam and run right back into an amusement park, called Atlantic Island Park, just as it was closing. Obviously you'll have to go back in and get him because leaving him there overnight to teach him a lesson is classed as child neglect apparently. There's also the fact that there's plenty of horror fuelled things going on so it's probably best to get in there and get him found.
You will occasionally hear Callum calling for you but you won't be able to find him right away, it would be a pretty short game if you did. You'll also come across flyers and notes that will drop hints at the disturbing past of the park!

Coffin Dodgers - 06 May
Last, but by no means least, for the releases this week is Coffin Dodgers, developed by Milky Tea, which will be released on May 06.
You find yourself in the idyllic retirement village of Sunny Pines. You've paid your dues to society and worked your way through to retirement where you've earned some rest and a chance to catch up on hobbies or whatever. There's just one problem though, Mr Grim Reaper has decided that Sunny Pines is the best place to reap some souls from the comfort of his own home. There are seven OAPs that aren't having it and are taking a stand!
They've made a deal with the Grim Reaper that if they beat him in a race and prove they're faster and still full of life, and ultimately winning the championship then he'll do one and let them live. Now he wouldn't be a decent Grim Reaper if he played by the rules! What he's failed to mention is that once he takes your soul you'll become part of his army of the living dead; mobility scooter racing zombies that'll do whatever they can to make sure no one wins!
It's a different take on the typical racing game with a "road rash" style player to player combat with different weapons and gadgets aimed at taking out the other racers, with added character ragdoll physics! Always good for a laugh.
You can also upgrade your mobility scooter to suit your own driving style. Although I don't recommend trying it out for real on an elderly relative's scooter. They might not appreciate it, although some of them might.
As well as being able to choose from 7 racers you also have the chance to unlock and play as the Grim Reaper himself!
The game can also be played in 2-4 split screen multiplayer mode as well as the single player story mode with races and challenges set around Sunny Pines. You can also try out the 3D open world "Crazy Granddad" mode.
