Magdala Media Ltd today announced that October’s GAME EXPO SCOTLAND 2014 has formed a partnership with Abertay University, which runs the Dare to be Digital contest and the Dare ProtoPlay games festival.
Dare to be Digital is the event for budding game designers as university students and recent graduates go head to head to design a playable game in just eight weeks. At the end of the competition all 15 student games go on show with games from indie developers at the Dare ProtoPlay festival in Dundee’s Caird Hall and City Square, 7th-10th August.
GAME EXPO SCOTLAND will be in attendance to show its support for the budding talent that Scotland has to offer the games industry – and to run a ‘cosplay’ costume competition on Twitter.
“We can’t wait to be at Dare ProtoPlay,” said Magdala Media founder and GAME EXPO SCOTLAND 2014 creator Rowan Mackie. “Being able to see the best and brightest emerging talent in game design on display right before our eyes will be wonderful, and it’s a great opportunity to see if we can bring that same sense of wonder to our event in October.”
Dare ProtoPlay attendees are encouraged to dress up and come to the GES stand to take part in the exciting cosplay competition, with 10 of the best costumes winning a t-shirt each day! Just tweet a photo with the hashtag #GESDare or @gameexposcot to enter.
“GAME EXPO SCOTLAND is a very exciting addition to the gaming calendar, and Abertay University is delighted to be working with the team to spread the word about the incredible creativity right here in Scotland,” added Professor Louis Natanson, Head of the School of Arts, Media and Computer Games at Abertay University.
“There are great links between our students, small start-ups and the very biggest companies like Rockstar North in Edinburgh who help mentor on our courses. We’re looking forward to having the GAME EXPO SCOTLAND team at Dare ProtoPlay in Dundee in August.”
Also, as a part of this partnership, Abertay University will have an on-site presence at GAME EXPO SCOTLAND 2014. This means that all GES 2014 attendees can see exactly the best way to get into games in the UK, and talk to some of those responsible for teaching and crafting these leading courses.
