In August 2020, the cries of the thousands of Fortnite players for iOS were heard when Apple removed the app for it storefront due to a escalation between Apple and Epic Games regarding the payment system within Fortnite itself.

Upon it’s removal, Epic Games went on a full frontal assault, launching a YouTube video that mocked Apple within Fortnite itself, as well as a lawsuit!

Apple announced in it’s statement after removing the game, that they had planned to work with the games publisher to resolve the violations, however would not create any form of special arrangement to get the game back into action on iOS devices.

Today, Epic Games took the unfortunate step of violating the App Store guidelines that are applied equally to every developer and designed to keep the store safe for our users. As a result their Fortnite app has been removed from the store. Epic enabled a feature in its app which was not reviewed or approved by Apple, and they did so with the express intent of violating the App Store guidelines regarding in-app payments that apply to every developer who sells digital goods or services.

However, despite the drama which unfolded, Fornite has now returned onto iOS with the help of Nvidia’s GeForce Now service. Geforce Now hosting Fortnite entered its closed beta testing today, with selected members who have signed up to play getting access later this month.

Nvidia and Epic Games have both been promising that Fornite would return to iOS players for some time, now, although not 100% ready, both have delivered on that promise.

As of yet, the beta testing period length hasn’t yet being announced.
