Admittedly, I’m not a fan of the horror genre, and I tend to stay away from these types of games; frankly, I just don’t get the same thrill that others get out of these games, and I tend to spend more time worrying about when and where the next baddie is popping up than actually enjoying the game. I’m also not huge on the first-person perspective, but I can appreciate and understand the fascination with first-person games because of the realism it adds to gaming. That said, I can honestly say that the recent Dying Light Gamescom trailer looks superb.

Essentially, Techland’s Dying Light is an action survival horror game that is set in an open world full of danger. You have the option of playing solo, or you can team up with three other players in the four-player co-op. In order to survive, you will need to master your terrain – you even get to go swimming with fish and bodies. Available to you is an assortment of weaponry – including hatchets, pistols, shotguns, swords, and more – which you actually get to craft yourself! There will even be a grappling hook that you can use to your advantage (it’s unclear if this can be used as a weapon or not, but I imagine you probably can). During the day-time, you will scavenge around for supplies to help in your fight against the flesh-eating, mindless, plagued enemies you’ll be facing. Come dusk, you’ll be fighting to stay alive as the infected grow in aggression and strength, and you’ll also face the even more lethal inhuman, nocturnal predators – which look strikingly similar to Dead Space’s Necromorphs (at least they do to me) – that leave their hives to feed come night-time.

Do you have what it takes to become the ultimate survivor? You WILL need to make use of any means to survive, and all your skills to last until dawn. Can you live to see the light?
