Through the darkness there is always light, this is what I have been chanting to myself whenever the topic of an Alan Wake sequel is mentioned. The bold game took a crippling 5 years in development before its final release on the 360, what people had waited so long for was actually one of the my games on the previous console generation.
I loved the game for its noire style of storytelling, where the character of Alan narrates the story over the player playing the actual game. The different approach to combat, players have to burn off the darkness from foes by weakening them with light before combating them with guns. The overall story is a great work of suspense, action and at its heart a love story.
Imagine my delight when a headline caught my eye on Facebook when an article claiming “Alan Wake 2 confirmed by games director” appeared. My body acted on instinct and clicked on the link before my brain could process the information.
The short 5 minute video on the game informer interview with Remedy Studios creative director Sam Lake, confirms Alan Wake 2 within the first 10 seconds of the video.
The thought of continuing Alan’s journey is one of hope and fear as we only wonder how much longer we have to wait. In the meantime if you have not played Alan Wake, I recommend picking it up pre-owned for pretty cheap. If you have played the original but not played Alan Wake’s American Nightmare then play that as well as a mini sequel it is no imitation and has everything an Alan Wake enthusiast could want.
