After what has seemed like years since its debut on the Xbox 360 back in November 2010 Microsoft has finally admitted the Kinect is dead and has now officially stopped manufacturing the accessory. When the product launched it became the fastest selling consumer device and made its way into the Guinness World Records at the time. The camera and microphone accessory was to help gamers get more active in there games and a whole host of games and ideas sprung up on the back of the idea.

The device was then brought across to Xbox One and came bundled in with the earlier models and allowed gamers an easier way to sign into the Xbox One, which had to be done manually when you first booted the console otherwise and it allowed you to control aspects of the gaming experience though various voice commands such as turning the console on and off. Sadly due to the accessory not living up to expectation, Microsoft removed it from the bundle and it left a rather unsightly and expensive product. Soon after the Kinects shaky start left it with a bad name for itself and its popularity fell away.

Although it might seem that the connect has been a failed experiment and a way to try and capitalise on that market the Wii had made for itself with the Wii remotes, Microsoft has claimed that it has in fact helped them to product better products in its other products. HoloLens used many of the Kinects traits such as depth-sensing and many laptops now ship with Windows Hello camera that learning from the Kinect to recognise people’s faces.
