Gears of War 4 emerged on Xbox One over a year ago now, who can believe that! While the birthday celebrations for the game are coming to a close, Gears developers, The Coalition are bringing down the final hurrah. This update includes the last 2 new maps that we will see for Gears of War 4 and marks a milestone for the title. Included in this update will be the support for the new Xbox One X which will allow anyone who is planning on upgrading to the new system to get the enhanced edition of the game from the day they get the console but be warned that the file will just take up space if you’re not planning on the jump then it might not be worth adding the extra 4k Game Content file from the System’s option.
With the last maps making their way to console Developer Playlists with double XP and 20% bonus credits will be going away from the title. However doesn’t despair just yet, anyone who owns any of the new maps will get a new bonus called ‘Map Owned’ where you gain a permanent increase in XP and credits in public versus and Horde modes. This means anyone who owns a Season pass will have access to this bonus across all 34 maps while anyone who hasn’t purchased any of the extra maps will only get a bonus on the standard 10 maps. We should also point out that The Coalition have been working hard behind the scene to optimise the save stat of the game and as of the October update all players will find the file size for Gears 4 slightly smaller.
Now onto the 2 new maps!
Fuel Depot is returning to Gears of War with an updated, larger, fresher take on the duel sniper showdown from 10 years ago. Rush in for the Longshot and take advantage of this sniper or fight it out in the warehouse where cover is plentiful. Catch your opponents off guard in this larger map by flanking while the shutters in the warehouse offer great opportunities to push against foes.
Lift Apex is a new take on an old fan favourite, a re-imagined design with the iconic lift and expanding territories. The map is now faster; with powerful weapons available right outside spawn zones the Imulsion Extraction Facility in the middle of the Serano Ocean now offers a faster more tactical take on this classic. Changing so much means that veteran players and new players will be on equal footing as they fight for the Submarine bay which offers an enclosed defensive position or the nearby EMBER or Longshot which are perfect tools for taking out foes from the elevated positions. As if all this wasn’t enough players who manage to gain access to the control room will have the power to mess with the shutters allowing them to block themselves off for a time, force opponents into close proximity fights or even just give or deny light of sight.
There’s plenty to come from Gears of War 4 this year! With Halloween just around the corner there will be new characters to collect, new weapon skins to earn and some freaky Halloween-themed events to smash your way through. This will leading into a month-long celebration of the 11th Anniversary of Gears of War. November will be packed full with things to do and new things to collect all in the midst the launch on Xbox One X.
