The first offering is Uncanny Valley. This 2D survival horror, brought to us by Cowardly Creations, brings a combination of puzzle solving, exploration, action and optional story content. You play as Tom, a night shift security guard for a remote facility. The developers have incorporated an interesting, ‘consequence system’ as there attempting to stay away from a first person shooter with horror elements. The ‘consequence system’ incorporated into the game means when you fail at a task, get caught or injured, you wont immediately die like in most games, instead you character will be affected for the rest of the game. This idea is to prevent you from becoming angry, as you tend to become less scared, it also means you have to think about encounters in the future more carefully. It seems to be an extremely clever way to add a from of realism which can seem lacking in other horror titles when all you see is the death screen, and then find yourself plopped at the nearest quick save location.

The next offering is Crypt of the Necrodancer. An interesting title and concept to say the least, brought to us by Brace Yourself Games and Klei Entertainment. Its a hardcore, rogue-like rhythm game where you must move to the music and fight to the beat. With music form Danny Baranowsky, 5 new remixed soundtracks for Xbox and the ability to listen to your own MP3’s in-game, it sounds like it could be a lot of fun, I loved beat based games like Patapon for PSP. The game sees you moving and fighting monsters, ‘driven mad by music’ to the beat of the music to make your way to the bottom of the dungeon.
