In case you weren’t aware there was a charity event called Extralife (do check it out) running at the weekend. Streamers and gamer’s played games to raise money for kids in need of care. Amazingly the charity has raised over $6 million. Studio Wildcard participated by doing a 24 hour long stream and in this stream they showed viewers upcoming creatures and features coming to updates soon.

First off. We’ll start with the Giant Squid.

The squid’s will be a good resource for Oil and the tentacles will make for some fearsome combat. Its ability to shoot ink I imagine will work similarly to the effect of dilophosaur spit. The devs also explained that there will be a lot more focus on underwater content. Not just risking yourself for rare drops and resources, but to add more detail to caves. They hinted at the upcoming addition of more aquatic creatures such as the Jellyfish.

Next up, the Pachyrhinosaurus.

The Pachyrhinosaurus is a medium sized herbivore who doesn’t look all that useful. It’s not particularly effective at gathering resources but they have a special set of skills. One buff is that the Pachyrhino is ignored by predators, big and small, which means players have some safety when exploring ARK. The secondary ability is to give off a pink smoke and this makes nearby creatures aggressive towards the Pachyrhino. At first it doesn’t sound useful but in a battle or luring creatures it will be highly useful. Studio Wildcard Devs stated he’s a Trike level tame, so easy to tame and a good tank for battle for early players.

It has also been mentioned that damage on the plates or horns will lowered and that an overhaul on all creatures will be done at some point to make armoured creatures more durable. For example, hitting the plates on a stego will do less damage than hitting flesh.

One you gardeners hate, the snail or Achatina

Not very exciting to look at. Nor very fearsome. It’s like the dung beetle all over again. That mean’s it has some use. And boy does it come in handy. I wonder if they will add the snail to Scorched Earth as the snail creates cementing paste over time. That means less time spending hours upon hours hunting chitin and crafting it with stone. Just get a couple of these guys and let them do their thing.

Next up, our night hunter, the Megalosaurus.

Declared as one of the most powerful therapods in the game. The Megalosaurus has the ability to latch onto its prey and is highly vicious at night. That’s the cost, this dino is a nocturnal hunter. During the day they will curl up and sleep and if used they get massive debuffs. But at night the Megalosaurus is highly vicious.

But now, there’s a new herbivore in town, the Thera…Therizinosaurus.

The the Therizino (much easier when shortened) has been known about for a while. Its mechanic is to gather fibre but it’s looking like its going to be a combat herbivore. It looks amazing and has a lot of feather detail. This is one I would keep just to show off to other inhabitants of the ARK.

On top of the new dinos comes a teaser for PS4 edition, new cave redesigns, and possible new maps. Check out the streams on Twitch if you want to see the animations.

Finally the Trooadon

Probably one of the last dinos we will see added, the Trooadon is a small carnivore about the size of the oviraptor that looks to be an efficient pack hunter. Probably suited to becoming a new guard dino.

What are you looking forward too most?
