Hello everyone, Jordan here once again with another Top 5. This week, I will be going through my Top 5 Master Chief Armour Variants. This includes all of his armour designs from the animated series and live action series, as well as any trailer specific ones (Poncho Chief).
It will be worth noting that I am aware that the armour is technically the same in some of the games (Halo 2 and Halo 3 for example), however the appearance is different, and therefore affects my rating.
Number 5
Chief’s Halo 5 Armour
At the bottom of the list in my top 5 is Chief’s Halo 5 armour. While extremely similar to his Halo 4 armour, it in all honesty just looks better. Not to mention that crack in the visor gives him extra badass points after the Locke fight. So why is this one on this list? It honestly is well suited to chief. A bit bulkier than previous designs, he looks more like a walking tank, which is awesome. Not to mention that it is a lot easier to move in because of the smaller pieces near the moving joint areas.
Number 4
Chief’s Halo 3 Armour
Incoming screaming fan boys …… Yes, Chief’s Halo 3 armour is way down at number 4 on my list. Mainly due to there being such a good selection, and I didn’t feel this one beat the top 3. The armour in Halo 3 really stood out when we first got to see it. It looked a million times better than the original Xbox graphics, and had certain epic features to it, such as the scratch mark down the chest. Chief’s Halo 3 armour has to be one of my favourites to see cosplayed. It really takes me back to the good old Halo 3 matchmaking days when everyone played with everyone. The armour is simple and great, much like Halo 3 itself.
Number 3
Halo on Xbox One Chief
If anyone is aware of my background with this version of the Chief, they’ll know exactly why it’s number 3 on the list. When we first got to see the “Halo on Xbox One” trailer all those E3’s ago, it brought new inspiration, new hope, and new excitement to the Halo community. I particularly got inspired, and set out to be the first person to cosplay as this version, but that’s a different story. The reason this version is at number 3 is because to me it shows just how fragile the Master Chief is. It shows us that he’s not an emotionless soldier that only cares about killing. It shows us that he’s not an indestructible tank with legs. It shows us the real John behind the helmet. The man who is searching for something he cares about, and doing so, becomes the very thing he was tasked with fighting, the enemy. Chief’s armour in this trailer to me signifies him being like every one of us, which is human. No other version of his armour does that for me.
Number 2
Chief’s Halo Legends Armour
Now, the Halo Legends armour was a very close contender to number 1, and I had to have a long hard think about this one. Chief’s armour in Halo Legends (on the box art) is also the same as that which appears in the Halo: Forward Unto Dawn web series. This armour has some features I absolutely love, mainly being that big 117 written in white on this chest. There are also small red triangles and markings spread across the entire armour set, as well as white stripes and other small details. The added bulkiness of the armour also makes it very appealing to me as I do like the walking tank look when it comes to younger Chief. This version to me says that he is focused on one thing and one thing only. Following orders and killing the enemy. Personally it’s how I view Chief in his earliest state as a Spartan. That’s why it is at number 2, because it’s a key point for me. His armour represents him, and Halo Legends really did show him off to be swift, and strong, and brave.
Number 1
Chief’s Halo 2 Armour
Now I know what you’re thinking, TWO IMAGES? Don’t worry. I just like the armour okay? They’ll be a bonus image at the end too, so keep an eye out. In all seriousness, the reason I’ve posted the Classic Halo 2 version and the Halo 2 Anniversary version is because they have certain differences. The main one being that the wear and tear is a lot more obvious on the original version and the original generally looks less tidy. The reason tops my list is because it’s my favourite. Duh, after CE this armour was of course the next version we got to see, and wow did it make an impression. The new design showed us just how a Spartan should look, damaged but efficient and always ready to battle. In all honesty this armour is probably my favourite heavily due to nostalgia, so nothing wrong with that I suppose. One thing that always bothered me though about this armour is I don’t see any training wheels.

Thus concludes this week’s top 5. Although I haven’t gone into much detail regarding the armour, this list was put together to share my views and opinions with the community.
