In true Halo style, the Great Journey has begun. To celebrate the launch of the brand new Halo Community section of XBLG, we’ve taken the time to put together a special interview featuring myself, The Worlds First Poncho Chief. During this interview, I tell the story of how I got into Halo, and what has happened from then to get me to where I am now. I hope you all enjoy a peak into how I got to where I am as a Halo fan, and what makes me the person I am today.

“Hi everybody, I’m Jordan, AKA The Worlds First Poncho Chief, and this is my story.”
Collection
“So my story begins really with my collection, which began when I first got Halo, Halo 3 in 2007, and my collection has just grew over the years, to the point where I’ve got things like posters, figures, limited edition games, my Master Chief stand, and my Scarab, and it’s kinda gone from being a collection that was relatively small, to a collection that is so big that I can’t even display it. It’s far too big now. The reason it’s so big is because to me that’s how I show off how much of a fan I am, that’s how I spread my Haloness, and I just like people to know that I love Halo. I just like people to know that I have such a passion. If people know how much I enjoy it, people might enjoy it more. People might appreciate what it’s done for me, so that’s why my collection is how it is, and that’s why one of the main things for me is my collection.”
Cosplaying and Events
“I’ve always wanted to have my own Facebook page, but it wasn’t something that happened straight away. I had a Halo cosplay in 2011. Now I bought this for a year 11 prom. As you can imagine, dancing around in school with a Master Chief costume, who doesn’t want to do that, and it was definitely an exciting experience. A very exhausting one at that, but exciting none the less. As I had this costume I started going to conventions, and meeting other cosplayers. That just got me even more interested, and throughout the years I’ve done different events for different people. I’ve attended birthday parties. I’ve been to special underground secret Xbox events, as it where, where I got to play Master Chief Collection early. I’ve got to do midnight launches for Halo 4, Master Chief Collection, and Halo 5 as Master Chief, which is an absolutely brilliant experience, because everyone views me as Master Chief while I’m doing it, so that was just BLOW YOUR MIND. Everyone sort of started recognising me as Master Chief.”
“When 2013 hit, and we had the E3 Halo on Xbox One trailer, I was like “Right, that Master Chief, I’m gonna be the first one in the world to cosplay as that Master Chief.” So, I had less than a month until the next convention, and I sat down with my dad, and I was like “These are the materials I need. This is what I need to order. This is where I need to order it from.” And within less than a month it was done. The Worlds First Poncho Chief was there, at Manchester MCM in July. To this day I’m still 100% sure I am the worlds first person to do that cosplay. Whether I am or not, it’s hard to tell, but I was the first one that i’d seen. But that led onto me making my page in December of 2013, and the page, WOW, the page blew up. Never before have I seen a Halo page grow so fast. My good friend J Spartan 115, Jimmy, he supported me in making that page, so a big thank you to you Jimmy. Without him and other cosplayers help, it wouldn’t of got as big as it was. Throughout the page running, I have been featured on Halo Waypoint’s Twitter, Halo Waypoint’s website twice. I’ve also spoke to BSAngel, and Bravo, and that sort of thing because of the page. I’ve held community nights. I’ve held giveaways. I’ve done a lot to get involved in the community, so I wouldn’t be where I am with the page without the community. That was my way of giving back, so a big thank you to everyone who has every supported my page as well. I also owe my page to putting me in contact with my good friend Gavin. Now, if I didn’t meet him, I wouldn’t be doing a wonderful thing that I am, which is writing for Xbox Live Gamerhub. That website is something that I adore writing for. It’s Xbox news mainly. We do cover stuff at E3 as well. It’s another way of interacting with the community, and if you’re not a part of the Xbox Live Gamerhub community, then I advise you to go and like the Facebook page, and join the community group, because it’s so, so excellent. Excellent group of people. Everyone just wants to get on with everyone, and that’s what gaming should be about.”
Gaming and Community
“So, that’s what my page has done for me, and what cosplay has done for me, and it’s really opened my experiences, and it all stems from Halo. It all has Halo to thank. I have made real life friends from Halo. Not just ones that live around the corner. Ones from other countries, that I’ve actually been to see. One example would be Team Hidden. Team Hidden was made I think was made around 2012, 2013, and we were just a group of people who met online at the time. Now we’re a good group of friends who regularly see each other. Halo brings people together, and especially helps people, helps me, and has helped me, a lot, get from A to B. Get to where I am, and overall be happier in life. And Halo helps everyone interact with everyone, which is beautiful. What more can you want from a game and a community. So I just want to say thank you. Thank you to 343 Industries. Thank you to Bungie. Thank you to Xbox. Thank you to everyone who’s supported my page. Thank you to everyone who’s supported Xbox Live Gamerhub. Just thank you to everyone who likes Halo, who’s supported Halo, who’s supported Xbox, and who’s part of the community, because without all of you, there wouldn’t be people like me, who run pages, and write articles. Thank you very much. This has been my story, and hopefully it will continue to be jam packed with Halo stuff in the future. Thank you and goodnight.”
It was truly a privilege and an amazing experience to be interviewed by XBLGamerhub. Having the chance to share my story, and let everyone know that every fan is a big fan in their own way. No matter why you like Halo, whether it’s the figures, the extended lore, or the games, just remember, you are a Halo fan, and you should never be ashamed of that. Be a proud Halo fan, because together, we can keep moving forward.
