The Other 99 is a title that may have escaped your attention, but it’s an interesting prospect if nothing else. Developed by Cornwall based indie team Burning Arrow, and published by Deck 13 (Lords of the Fallen and The Surge), The Other 99 seems like an intense Battle Royale experience that sees players fighting off the 99 other NPCs on an island in first person.
In The Other 99, players find themselves on an island with nothing but a note which reads, “the only way off the island is through the other 99.” Each enemy NPC is just as desperate to survive as you, and will stop at nothing to achieve their goal…. The game features brutal visceral combat, story driven exploration and stealth elements.
An intriguing prospect as multiplayer games like The Culling are gaining some traction. Perhaps Rockstar weren’t too far off the mark with Manhunt, and maybe we really do want to snuff our friends out in the most basic yet horrific way. I certainly prefer the single player approach, as I find multiplayer matches can’t adequately portray true tension, so this is on my must watch list.
While it was due to launch this month, we’ll see it drop on the 25th of August, just in time for the end of the summer. Check out the announce trailer after the break.
