The Banner Saga was a massive hit on PC when released. It has won awards such as “Excellence in Visual Arts” category Independent Game Festival, 3 BAFTA Award Nominations, and winner of Pocket Gamer’s 2015 Best Adventure/RPG Game. It’s no surprise then that the sequal, The Banner Saga 2 will be coming to Xbox One on July 26th.
The Banner Saga combines a great narrative, with permadeath features and a combat system slightly similar to XCOM. Players need to ensure the caravans safety and will have to balance travelling along side events in their story. It creates that bond between the player and its characters. You will want to protect your favourite characters as much as possible and will find yourself infuriated and upset at the loss of a hero or heroine.
Coming up to release, the developers Versus Evil, have revealed a new mode being released for PC and subsequently for Xbox One upon release, survival mode. In survival mode players assemble a team of heroes from the story of The Banner Saga 2. Then comabt begins and the player must win a series of battles to earn renown, the currency of survival mode. You can utilize renown to replace fallen heroes as death is permanent. I’m looking forward to pitting my years of XCOM to playing The Banner Saga 2.
