Doom – 13 May
There’s only one release this week – but it’s a big one.
The wait is finally over and Doom is coming to Xbox One this week! You only have a few days to wait before you’re back (or in some cases visiting for the first time) on Mars, shooting your way through hordes of demons with “big effin’ guns” while “moving really fast”.
You’ll have loads of weapons to keep you occupied such as the Super Shotgun and the BFG 9000. Additionally, the game will also feature melee weapons like the chainsaw, to cut down your enemies. You’ll also notice many enemies from the original have gone through a bit of a redesign, including the Revenant, Mancubus and the Cyberdemon.
The combat system puts emphasis on speed and momentum, so you’ll be able to do things like sprint and double jump. Bethesda are calling their combat system “push-forward combat”, and it’s designed to discourage you from taking cover or rest to regain health – instead you’ll constantly be driving forward to grab health and armour pickups or kill enemies. It’s kind of like Doom.
Another mechanic introduced in the new Doom is the execution system. Do enough damage to an enemy and they will be highlighted, indicating that they can be finished off with an ‘execution-style’ melee attack. Doomguy will then spend a few seconds gleefully reducing them to a chunky splatter before moving on.
According to id, the campaign will be more than 13 hours long and the “Ultra-Nightmare” mode will have permadeath, as if it being “Ultra-Nightmare” wasn’t enough.
You can pick up your copy and get your ass to Mars this Friday. If you haven’t seen it already you can check out the trailer below:
