Ever since its creation back in 2013, Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider has redefined Lara Croft as we know her. Rather than the confident adventurer we had come to know since the PlayStation days, the game introduced her as a younger version, one needing experience in an effort to survive. The game has since become the stuff of legend, and recently made its debut on the Nintendo Switch 2. But we know what you guys want – the game on cartridge. Well, good news!
Limited Run Games has announced that it is releasing a physical edition of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, in conjunction with the developers at Aspyr. The game is set to be published later this year, and, yes, full game on cart. These days, knowing the value of a physical release is everything. (cough hack PlayStation cough hack)
There are two editions available, and we’ll break each one down for you here, so you know what you’re in for. Both can be pre-ordered now, with a full pre-production order going through August 2nd.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Standard Edition
Going for $49.99, this is the best general release. The game is full release on cartridge, with great cover art featuring the lovely Lara herself, ready to strike with a flaming arrow. What’s more, it utilizes the red Nintendo Switch 2 case, and, yes, full game on cart. No dreaded Game Key Card here. (Artwork is subject to change, but not likely given the official rating stamped on the box.)
This is a great snag for players that love the game, or just want to experience its glory all over again on the Switch 2. And, hey, with enough sales, we could see Rise of the Tomb Raider, which also got a full release on the system, get similar treatment. That’s gonna be worth picking up as well.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Collector’s Edition
For just a little bit more, you can prove what kind of dedicated Lara Croft fan you really are. Priced at $79.99, the Collector’s Edition – also available within the same pre-order period, comes with the game on cart. But it also includes a collector’s box, a Steelbook case, a map of Yamatai and a soundtrack CD. And you also get a Pry Axe keychain, so you can carry a piece of Lara Croft with you – even while you go to work.
Its pre-orders are also available now, and though there’s no sign of a Lara Croft statuette, this is still a pretty solid collector’s item. Maybe they’re saving that for Rise.
